anyone going to Copenhagen for the outgames this summer, and what will you participate in?

Judo is not a part of the programme so I'll probably just go and watch something... Copenhagen being my city, everything is pretty close LOL

I'm trying to go for rowing. I joined DCStrokes on the competitive team. Practices start in March. I really want to go to Copenhagen with them. I'll be a coxswain.

I've been contemplating running (middle distance), but it looks like I'll be in San Diego that week for my ex's wedding (well, they tied the knot back when it was possible and will hold the ceremony on the 1 year anniversary).

You would think, but I've done better on gay.com . Of course, the pool is bigger there.

Though one idea might be to change the profile here from "Sports I like" and "Other Sports I like" to "Sports I like" and "Sports I PLAY".

Not to bitch and moan (too much), but see what I mean? The OutGames will be the premier gay sporting event of the year... and here, on Real Jock there are only 7 individuals who have responded in this topic (in over 2 months).

I don't excel enough in any sport to compete. Were I able to afford it I'd love to go to see the games though. Right now the cost is prohibitive, particularly as a spectator.

Roller Derby is not an Outgames sport, otherwise I would consider it icon_confused.gif

I might be going to play soccer (football) I've been on teams to got to London and Argentina the last two years for the gay world cup but had to drop out. So hopefully I can make this.

ISk8NY> Roller Derby is not an Outgames sport

Send them an email and suggest they add it. (:
(The Chicago Gay Games added football after I enquired.)

bgcat57> I don't excel enough in any sport to compete. Were I able to afford it I'd love to go to see the games though.

I know what you mean about cost (especially with the games overseas), but it's really more about participation than competition.

At least that's the case with the Gay Games, where everyone gets a participation medal. Obviously some may treasure it and others may view it as just bling, but it does show the underlying philosophy. Things can get very competitive on the field in some venues, but before and after there is a lot of camaraderie.

So for anyone who does something, even if just for fun, I encourage you to try and participate in either the OutGames or GayGames if you can (hopefully at least one of them will be back in North American in 3 or 5 years which will make it much more affordable).

I'm flirting with the idea of running the marathon.

The website is a little difficult to navigate and am not sure if it would be a Boston qualifier and there is little course description offered.

I think it would be fun, I'm sure that there would be like minded people serious about competing and no late night parties.

Is the course the Copenhagen Marathon course? It's not my favorite race in the world and not sure it is worth crossing the atlantic for.

Congratulations on your first marathon! You definitely need and deserve a rest.

I'd love to go and run some track and field but it's just such an expensive endeavor.

Tempted! I'll need to check the website. If not, then 2010. Probably a running event, or triathlon, if they're offering it.

I can't say for sure, especially regarding the OutGames, but I do know that qualified world records in different events have been set at the Gay Games so I think it is "official".
