I will be traveling to London at the end of the month for about a week with a large group and am wondering if anyone from London on here had been effected by this? Also wondering if anyone has any advise for this other than the usual wash your hands, eat well, drink plenty of fluids, etc..

This happens every year, if your careful and in relatively good condition you will be fine.

    Don;t do anything abnormal, like:

Eating raw/undercooked chicken, gone off food.

    Roll in pig shit

    or lick toilet bowls.

Though this is from the Daily Express, otherwise know as the Daily Princess Diana, which praises itself on being the same as the Daily Racist but 10p cheaper.

Did I say Daily Racist, I meant to say Daily Mail, how did that just slip out.

    Haha

We at Virginia Tech in the US had a warning for the norovirus a while ago, while another college supposedly got sprayed with disinfectant they were hit so badly.

Now that I think of it though, I am sick...

Its a virus that can be caught just by getting on the subway.
I actually came down with it about 5 years ago when I was living in London. It was the sickest I have ever been and when it hit me I really thought I was dying.
It was very scary to go through. If it wasn't for the matinence guy discovering me on my couch and boiling some water for me, I'm not so sure what would have happened. Its no joke, I couldn't even keep water down. It had to be boiled to get rid of all the minerals before my body would accept it.
So be safe if you can!

I am not denying that this norovirus exists here in the UK, but I have learned in life that the Press often presents something which is much more terrifying or dramatic than the reality of it. This is because newspapers want to sell. So dramatic the media can be, that during the days of the IRA terrorism, I was chatting to a hosteller in Israel, when I disclosed my UK home country.
The backpacker reeled back in horror and asked whether I had beem injured by the bombing! And that has happened with several hostellers, one in America. The truth is, I had never seen or heard a bomb explode, not even from a distance.
The fact is, our cold, damp winters results in viral infections every year, and this has been going on since time immemorial.
Take Surfwarrior's advice and keep yourself clean and stay away from dubious places, you should be okay. Good Travelling.

Millions are to be struck down by a deadly virus....did I miss this because I was in London and I have to say it was remarkably free of rotting corpses icon_rolleyes.gif

It's like fox news has suddenly surfaced in the UK and is spreading sensationalist lies to cell newspapers

Wash your hands... it's the best way of not getting it (unless you want to walk around with a gas mask). I can assure you that it sucks a whole lot to get this... I had it for the last week of my classes, and I got so dehydrated and feverish that I started hallucinating. That's in addition to the constant vomiting and loose (and by that I mean watery) stools. Sorry for grossing anyone out... I thought I was going to die. At one point I vomited so much and so forcefully that my throat started to bleed. Yeah, enough about that.

Just make sure to wash your hands and not use just that Purell alcohol crap... it's not very effective at killing the norovirus.

Don't go to England or check the US health advisary agency first. If there is a health for you traveling there and apparently this is not new information why put yourself at risk?

I am glad to see the British journalism is as scurrilous with its health coverage as it is with its political coverage.
