The Pew Research Center conducted these surveys last year.

Generalizing here; It seems that countries with a strong religious following AND a low level of access to education/internet have always been the least tolerant.

Applies to US states, too. Not to mention political parties. I think these two things also lend themselves in combination to top down political tyranny which always seems to need to define an "enemy" to drum up support and gays are a convenient one to pick because authoritarian regimes can use them for political fervor while not being expected to win a battle. Look at the Republican party. It has more in common with African dictators and Muslims than any first world country.

The US as a whole seems split along lines that you mentioned as well as others. I wonder if that applies to many of these other countries as well. I never did understand conservative hetero's fascination with pleasure fucking and gay sex. I swear they think about gay sex more than gays do. (K maybe not that much)
