"Mertens on Monday told his team, and announced on social media that he was bisexual, making him the first college football player to come out publicly while still playing. "

“I hope people make fun of me,’’ Mertens said with a smile. “It gives me a lot more drive. I got a lot bigger guys than me standing behind me that will take care of me. And it will be great if I can knock down a 44-yard field goal to win it and have them call me gay. Because gay just beat you.’’

er... podunk little church skool, and it turns out that he's not actually a starter, but I guess it's the thought that counts.

That's untrue. Brian Sims was the first out college football player, and he was the captain. He's an American politician now.

I read yesterday Brian Sims did come out TO HIS TEAM/COACH at the time in 2000, but not "publicly". So maybe this kid is the first college player to publicly announce it.

Well, how would you really know? Is there like, a national registry or something?

Maybe "the first" was just somebody who didn't feel the need to call a press conference about it.

did somebody say bisexual cop? ( former now ) Michael Lackl:
    45095384-4715-45d1-84bb-18a498f6eec5

cute and sued the PD for discrimination. think it's probably alot harder to be an out gay-bi cop than a college football player.

ViciousRumor saidBisexual yeah but they don't really go through what we go through. If I were those cops I'd just keep my mouth shut. You're married to a woman. Why do you care?

well i think the rest of the precinct became aware of their xtra marital activities with dudes. it wasn't like they were walking around bragging about being bi.

    Good on him
But yeah, pretty sure Brian Sims was out if only in his last year as "GAY" 13 years ago.

yeah but stop and think for a moment, that WAS 13 YEARS ago, a very different environment socially speaking. to hear about his teammates acceptance back then is really amazing.

not to take anything away from this kid now, but times have changed quite a lot since Brian Sims and his team had their mutual revelations.

Congrats to Mertens! This took a lot of courage... it sounds like he's a great guy with the right attitude. It's also encouraging to see that his teammates are supporting him. The younger generation is so much farther ahead on this issue, it's really impressive. icon_biggrin.gif

Just like many young Bonafide Homosexuals are going though a stage and they will grow out of it. Get a girlfriend, marry have children live out in the burbs happily ever after.

Bi is bi no matter if you live as a straight or a homosexual, it's not a phase, they were just born to swing both ways unlike us Bonafide homosexuals, and straights. Now your going to tell me no one is 100% straight we are all biicon_rolleyes.gif

Sorry bi's exist no matter the banner they stand under, as they are both yet neither.
