I'm heading to New York City tonight for a week and I'm stoked cuz I have never seen NYC during the holidays and always wanted to. Can any of you locals clue me in on some hot spots (fun restaurants, clubs, shopping, etc.) to go out at night? I'm clueless cuz I haven't been to NY in 18 years. I'm staying at THE NEW YORKER hotel which is at 33rd St & 8th Ave in midtown so I guess it's a pretty good central location to everything.

Terrific little, very reasonable, French restaurant on 55th Street (La Bonne Soupe

A fun gay haunt (the Duplex, in the village).
Really corny but I always had a great time there.

Sounds like fun -- the city is great all decked out for the holidays. Your hotel is an easy walk down to Chelsea, or a short subway ride to Rockefeller Center, 5th avenue and Central Park. See a B-way show if you can, museums are a must and shopping -- we have so many stores you won't find in smaller cities. For gay bars/nightlife, Chelsea is the main event, but the East village is definitely worth an evening. More and more tourists are venturing to Brooklyn, which has a lot to offer, from spectacular views to Prospect Park. Good luck, have fun!icon_biggrin.gif

if you wanna do something supergay, there's marie's crisis in the west village right off 7th (i forget what street it is on ). it's a local piano bar. Sing along to broadway show-tunes until the early morning hours. I swear to you... this tiny hole in the wall is LOTS of fun icon_smile.gif

I'm sorry I'm going to miss this. After all we've been through, I probably owe you a few drinks. Me and mine are heading down to Miami Beach tomorrow for a couple weeks. We're driving and bringing the dogs. He insisted that we need to make this drive in his new car. UGH!

Have a great stay in the city, Curious. Don't take candy from strangers, but make a lot of friends.

Marie's Crisis is not gay, how dare you even say that. It is a STR8 acting establishment. I saw Triggerman there having a cosmo just the other day.

Perfect winter night treat: warming up at Max Brenner's Chocolate Factory for the best hot chocolate and chocolate fondue in the city - don't bother getting anything else on the menu. There's one on Broadway at the southern end of Union Square and another at 2nd Ave ad 9th St.

    Hey Curious,

So when you're in NY the following will help you decide what to do while you're here. Click on the link and it'll take you to what my friends and myself refer to as the gay bible.

Oh and it's supposed to snow here in NYC tomorrow and then again on Sunday! Make sure you go to Central Park, it's AWESOME when covered in a blanket of white powder.

Don't worry, Curious... As long as you don't ask us ridiculous questions like where Herald Square is, we'll be kind to you...

And don't forget a few drinks...

While it may be cold, walking along the hudson river from riverside park in the 90s and even down more towards the village is fun. I rollerblade/run it in the summer. Benches etc. It's like being in Paris (so I've heard).

Vynl restaurant is becoming a chain but it is good food (pan asian american, broad menu). Really fun because bathrooms are Bette, Cher, Madonna, Beyonce etc. and the songs play while you pee and there are barbies dressed to look like the divas

Have fun! I love the city and enjoy it while here.

As a native of this incredible city, I can recommend:

    - the best types of chinese cuisine (many different regional styles) in Chinatown.

    - the best Korean, Thai, Indian, Turkish, Brazilian, steak houses, Japanese noodle parlors and restaurants as well as specialty (cheap) markets to buy products from different cultures.

    - the best cultural institutes of world cultures that frequently have music/drama performances and museums.

    - the best low cost or free music concerts, dance performances.

    - the best museums, current exibitions, and how you can get in for free.

    - the best art galleries, shows and openings.

    - the best gay bars....whatever your into...sports, cruising, raunch, socializing, chillin. etc...happy hour, 2 for 1 specials, free snacks etc.

    - the best dance clubs.........places most people have never heard of, the best music and DJ's.

    - the best outdoor places to people watch.

    - the best shopping, deals and steals for clothes, electronics, anything.

    - the best way to get around...the subway (very safe), buses, taxis...also travelling by boat and even helecopter.

    - the cheapest and best ways to travel to and from all the aiports.

    - the best places to work out at a gym for free

    - the best way to avoid the tourists....LOL

    - the best places to buy food....cheezes, chocolates, wine, candy, flowers, sex toys, getting a haircut/shave etc.
