Laughing at things you shouldn't laugh at

I was at this house party tonight and there was this gal there. She's just an acquaintance but she is pretty cool for the most part. She was wearing these massively high high heels. She's already about 5'10 so in these heels she was reaching Shaq territory.

I was in the kitchen with a few people munching on Tostito's and salsa because I had quite a large craving for them. Lady Shaq comes into the kitchen and fucking wipes out on the floor. She was able to catch herself before her face hit the ground. Everyone was all like "Oh no are you ok?!?!??!?!" She was fine and we all helped her up.

After the incident I went out to my car. Once there I climbed into the drivers seat closed the door and laughed my ass off for about 10 minutes. I would stop laughing and then picture her falling again and then laugh even harder. After I was finished I felt bad about laughing but at the same time it was pretty goddamn funny.

Anyone ever laugh at inappropriate times?

    I'm fucking evil

Some women are just clowns with their attire without realizing it. I used to marvel at some of the stuff they'd wear when I rode the train to work.

Not for nothing, but I wouldn't have made it to my car.
It's like the guys I see in the ER with foot injuries from running in flip-flops.
One guy got angry at me. He'd been riding his bicycle, nearly lost a toe. "I can't help it...you're stupid bro".
Inappropriate, would be laughing at the anorexic person, because the only thing they'll drink is the Diet ensure--"to many calories in the regular one".

I have this way of finding humor in the worst situations. Certain jobs can do that to you... However, I think with me it is an hereditary thing. I never try to be mean with it, but if the shit is funny I will definitely laugh. If she wasn't injured then I would have rolled on the floor. I would have helped her up and giggled the whole time. If I do stupid shit... I will be the first one to laugh and would think nothing of someone laughing. We all need to relax a little and enjoy the moment. icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

I always laugh at how pathetically poor my employer runs a utility co. It's either laugh, or have a nervous breakdown.

When someone trips and falls, especially if they ask for it, there's always something comical about it. See any old movie or cartoon for examples. My favorite is when Hyacinth Bucket blows the car horn and scares the HELL out of Ed Lowe while he walks past her carrying a tray of drinks. The name of the episode is "Driving Mrs. Fortescue".

I'm just the opposite. I don't find people getting injured funny. The only exception would be something like the Jackass show, because they're doing it for kicks. Even the most innocent of family shows.....America's Funniest Home Videos...when they show people getting injured, I have no desire to laugh and in fact change the channel or leave the room.

Yeah I don't get that either.

I knew a guy who watched YouTube vidoes like "girls failing" and I just do not understand the appeal. I never cared for slapstick humor either so maybe that's it icon_smile.gif

I guess if I have a dark humor side, it's for prank videos. I love Halloween and love scaring people and even love to be scared myself. icon_biggrin.gif But of course a lot of these go too far and cause people to fear for their lives, which I don't like, as it's on par with physical injury in my mind.

OMG seriously? I would have laughed in her face Before I knew she was ok.. that sounds mean but ahah Damn that sounds funny.. if she is anything like she sounds she is or like me... Falling down in front of everyone just got her more attention which She LOVES!.. Really she is ok with it

I was trying my hardest in class today to not laugh at some of my classmates dumb comments and I failed.. even with the foreign guy who Really doesn't seem to understand what's going on around him but LOVES to raise his hand

Same here. My sister-in-law loves to laugh at the misfortune of others. Unfortunately my brother now does it as well.

Reminds me of those movies A Mighty Wind, Best in Show, and some others; same director/script writer. The whole premise of them is laughing at the presumed foolishness of others.

One time I was walking through the town centre after work and walked near a rubbish collection van with a kind of mesh side wall. One of the collectors picked a full bag out of the bin and hurled it against the mesh wall inside the truck. About 3 pints of 'bin juice' sprayed out the other side of the truck...all over a businesswoman walking nearby. I still remember her angry face glaring at me for laughing wahahaha icon_twisted.gif

Whenever someone tells me about something tragic, I have to try -so hard- not to laugh in their face. No idea why.

I remember telling a friend once that my house went on fire and he laughed.
I never really wanted to talk to him after that.
Too bad you can't give me any insight into that.

I could watch people falling down on AFHV all day and laugh every time.
    I surprise myself.
On the other hand, when I watch Tosh.0, I hate seeing those videos where people get hurt. I'll yell out, "OMG! I hope they're OK!"
There was one where a strong man competitor dropped a cement bell on himself. While the coaches were yelling "Someone call 911," the TV audience were laughing their asses off.
The hell? How can that be funny?

When I fall/hurt myself my first impulse is to laugh uncontrollably. I just find humor in things like that. I would have definitely laughed my ass off when she fell as long as she wasn't badly injured.

    My rule:
Are they okay? Then laugh your ass off!
Do you see blood, bruises, or extreme pain? Funniness is gone.

shaggyfromscoobydooisgay saidunfortunately, i have this problem. there's times where the insensitivity button gets pushed and i'll be trying not to crack up or laughing @ something such as hearing someone saying owww or face all in pain. i feel bad because i'm like "damn" but then again, that's some social cue that i picked up though. if i hadn't learned that it's bad to laugh when bad things happen to people, i probably would have gave two fucks laughing at something tragic.

i still crack up @ this. the way the train crashed though. i know there were some members that told me off about this shit thinking that i was laughing at people dying BUT i was laughing at the way the train derailed. icon_lol.gif

How can you look at something where you KNOW people are being torn limb from limb and laugh about it? I'm not saying this to be mean or anything, but seriously....you need serious help.

the real question is why are you thinking about people being torn to bits watching a train derail. there's NOTHING in the video that shows that. i CLEARLY said that i'm laughing @ the TRAIN and the way it derailed off the track. i'm basically laughing @ what i see happening in the video. i'm NOT even thinking about the people on the train or bodies being torn to bits because i can't see them nor do i want to see that.

stop projecting. i may be insensitive but you seem to have a weird mind yourself if you're thinking about bodies being mingled up and mutilated watching this video that doesn't even show it. it's not like the train was coming apart or exploded in the video either so your mind obviously is working in a different way.

I just think there is some kind of disconnect in your brain if you can watch this and not immediately know that people are dying as that crash is unfolding before you. It's not a cartoon....it's real footage from a real crash....where real people are being killed. *Sigh*

see. you're saying that because you know the background story of the video. what if i saw a gif of the video without knowing the story behind it being posted on a web forum that someone used as something to say that a thread was derailed or something and i thought it was funny? what then? what happened if it was some computer controlled train that was making a test run with nobody in it and that happened? would it THEN be okay to laugh?

you're trying way too hard, dude.

I'm actually not "trying" hard to do anything. I'm just stating my opinion. And I don't know anything about this crash, but common sense tells me people died. Even if I knew it was a non-manned train with no passengers on board, I still wouldn't find anything funny about it. I would be thinking about how much money this might cost someone or the possibility of someone getting fired over this. Our brains just work differently I guess.

Shaggy, I would say that your "shortcoming" is not so much that you think that train crash is funny but that you know it outrages people to hear it and you still tell them again and again.
