As a father of 3 this is one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. I know we have freedom of speech and etc, but to teach a child hate should be agains the law. Its no telling what these children will be like when they get older....

I think they are all crazy, insane people and whats the deal the women doing the rockets line up and kick? Is that supposed to be chrisian? haha

I love the sign the guy was holding with the 2 stick figures getting ready to have anal sex!! wtf?

This is just proof that interpretation of the Bible goes from one spectrum to the other....

What if that little boy at the end turns out to be gay? He may grow up to be a troubled politician who meets guys in sleazy park bathrooms for his release and one day will be discovered, outed, and commit murder against some department store Santa Claus as an outlet for his anger.icon_sad.gif

False belief systems / cults / religions prey upon the weak-minded, and the video above is a CLASSIC EXAMPLE of how the indoctrination / brain washing begins at a young age and continues for a life time.

As if the false belief system, in and of itself, wasn't bad enough, it's used here as a vehicle for hate, intolerance, and misinformation.

Hitler understood how these systems work and exterminated MILLIONS by preying upon the mental weakness of folks who become engulfed in these systems. Folks like George Bush used these weak-minded folks to tip the scale for an agenda that has left us with the economical and moral mess we have today. The Religious Right counts on these weak-minded folks to fill their TAX-FREE coffers. It is BEYOND disgusting that folks can get caught up in this malarkey. It exemplifies some of the very worst traits of human beings.

It so VERY important that folks teach their children that cults, religion, false belief systems are BUNK, so they don't end up like the above. It's absolutely disgusting in what these folks get away with.

It quite literally makes me physically ill to see how DUMB, IGNORANT, and EASILY LED, some of the folks in these false belief systems are.

In 2008, folks need to be taught critical thinking, sound logic, scientific reasoning, and throw this CRAP out the door.

I like how Tyra simply acknowledges the anger that is in the message and speaks to that. Beautiful.

I don't think that women should be allowed use the word tolerance. How has this family never come under some kind of government sterilization program?

I actually think the Westburo woman comes off as a lot more intelligent here. Tyra, as usual, sounds like an idiot to me. She thinks she is automatically smart because she tows the liberal line. I don't think Tyra ever learned how to think for herself.

An intelligent argument against the Westburo ilk should not rely on assuming that your own opinions and beliefs are more righteous than theirs. No. Instead, the Westburos are wrong because their premise is invalid. Hence the rest of their argument is invalid. The woman actually makes a strong case for people who take the bible's more vengeful/hateful parts literally. Unfortunately, to take the bible seriously as anything more than a fiction story written by men 2000 years ago is to accept all it's inconsistencies and lose credibility yourself.

That's not to say that there isn't great truth in the bible (especially in Jesus's teachings). But as Richard Dawkins would argue, if you believe in the bible literally then you may as well believe in unicorns or Santa Claus or the Easter bunny.

Anywho, the other invalid premise that the Westburo woman assumes is of course that homosexuality is a choice, which is in all likelihood not true. In fact, recent scientific evidence is strongly leaning towards homosexuality as a genetic mutation of some kind.

That sounds cool to me...we're like X-men...well maybe XXX-men so to speak lol.

I'm with you there and to go just one step further, it makes all people think that this is representative of Christians across the board with could NOT be further from the truth. This is not God's word and these are not God's workers, these are hate filled mongers who prey on others. If there is a hell, surely these folks will be there! Merry Christmas!

The problem is that you have failed to define what you mean by truth, let alone "great truth" . Indeed, attaching a superlative to something that inherently seems to impose a dichotomy suggests there's more going on here than an innocuous "true or false". I think the inclusion of these weasel words is *exactly* what makes debate about religion so unproductive in general.

This "church" has gone from hating the sin, to hating the sinners, to hating everyone around the sinners! Sidenote--sin is their word!!!

Good point TigerTim. Let me clarify. First, there is no such thing as truth, there is only 'relative truth' or 'personal truth'. As such when I say "great truth" I am referring to something that is especially true for me and may or may not be true for others. All that that means is that there are lessons in the bible which I take to be true premises for my life. I also happened to think that they are good lessons for anyone but I have chosen them to be axiomatically true for myself.

Citations?...uhh gahh..I didn't bookmark the excerpts I read and, frankly, I'm too lazy to go back now. Sorry but I'm sure you can google it and find some books or something (not that google will shed light on the truth either).
