Finally, after a long period of drought, we have a few days of rain. Occasionally in the winter, but not usually, SF gets several days of drizzle. Normally, like today, when it rains, it doesn't just rain. The normal for rain here is gusty winds of 20-50 mph, which constantly change direction, throughout all 360 degrees of the compass, which is what it was doing just now in the East Bay. Not a lot of rain, but always a lot of wind. It can be exciting to drive across one of the long bridges here during a storm - winds often over 50 mph, blowing sideways across the bridge. Not yet, put probably tonight.

Don't mention rain, it's hardly stopped in the last 2 months.
2x normal in December, 3x in Jan. Some people flooded for the last 6 weeks with more storms expected.

That's because you live in the UK, where it constantly rains. Similar to our Pacific Northwestern states of Washington and Oregon, unless California's drought has had a negative impact on their climate as well.

More to the point, we've just had about 6 months worth of rain in 8 weeks .
