Mary Helen Sears, elected vice chair of the Michigan Republican Party's 1st District last year, wants gays "purged" from the GOP and claims homosexuality is a "perversion" created by Satan himself.
In a rant on a GOP website, Sears claimed that homosexuals prey on children, argued that "Satan uses homosexuality to attack the living space of the Holy Spirit" and advocated that Republicans "as a party should be purging this perversion and send them to a party with a much bigger tent."

Another proud day for the Republican Party. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yet these are the Republicans that RJ Right Wingers support.

"Oh, no! I support THAT Republican over there, not the one you posted as a homophobe!"

Except, the Republicans all vote as a block. Vote for one, you vote for them all. So that selective argument fails.

When you vote for ANY Republican you vote for the entire Party, and all their homophobic platform. Which this woman represents.

Of course, anyone with a free-thinking half a brain here knows this statement by you simply IS NOT TRUE --- yet another one of your many lies to try and make generalizations that hold no water.

More lies. If this were true we would still have DADT and DOMA

Nope, sorry, you're just plain DELUSIONAL. This woman no more represents the whole GOP than you represent the entire military

This woman is in the leadership of the GOP, so she does represent the party. It's not like she's just some random person ranting, she is a vice chair in one of the district.

Without a Democratic president, DADT or DOMA would never have been struck down. Obama's Attorney General refusing to defend it helped speed the process along. There are elected pro-gay Republicans, but they are so afraid of the so-cons, they don't speak up much. Or, they've been defeated by Democrats, because they got weighed down by the overall right-wing tilt of the party.

Actually I keep reading that the party is splitting in two with the tea party "God, gays, and guns" faction battling it out with the old-money "We got ours, screw everybody else" faction in local races.

I'm neither so I will never be one, but the idea that the party is a monolith is not accurate.

Let's be fair. The Republicans on here are always saying that Democrats have just as many vile, hateful representatives on their side. So let's take this opportunity to allow them to post all of the rabid Democrats who behave like this lady. Hello.....Southbeach?

    +1

It's frightening to hear fair weather republicans shrug off the homophobia in their party, with false assurances that these are isolated, irrelevant instances. There are so many countries, past and present, that went from this kind of rhetoric, to rounding gays up and killing them.... Not just gays but ethnic, religious minorities, races, and etc. It would be naive to ignore hate speech from people in positions of power like government. It makes me so frustrated to see gay people on RJ constantly defend the GOP as the party of freedom.icon_cry.gif

Should I post that because Fred Phelps has run for office several times AS A DEMOCRAT that he represents the whole Democratic Party?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps

Should I post that because the anti-gay Mark Clayton was the Democratic nominee for Senate in Tennessee that HE represents ALL Democrats?

How about Ike Skelton from Missouri? Should we pretend that HE represents the Democratic Party? Let's look at his voting record on Civil Rights issues...

    Ignoring her republican status.

I find it interesting that she is so focused on "traditional religious views."

The traditional religious view is that women have no place in the public forum of politics. That would have been and was referred to in the past as a "creation of Satan." icon_rolleyes.gif

He thinks he has "1,866 online nowSearch 362,866 profiles" less the five or six dues paid, card carrying, loyal members of the Conservaposse

Err...no, I think a "politician to politician" comparison makes some sense; "crazy Republican politician" to "rabid liberal RJer" is an apples to oranges thing: crazies just don't seem electable on the left like they do on the right (not really throwing shade there; just observing the success of the Tea Party and the unmitigated failure of any Democratic subset to the left of the party.)

As for a comparison of rabid RJ conservatives to rabid RJ liberals, obviously I'm biased, but I still think the right takes the cake here (and I'm not talking about you FIF...there are conservative posters on here that make you look like Chairman Mao by comparison, hahaha).

There might be one or maybe two RJ posters to the right of me, but not many. And I never really thought of myself as a Chairman Mao of the Republican party, but I'm probably in the middle or maybe slightly to the right of the GOPers I know.

I've known a bunch of Republicans in my life and still haven't managed to meet anyone like the examples that crop up here. I'm sure that in a nation of 317,000,000 or whatever it is today, there examples out there of just about everything, right or left. If they do exist in any numbers on the right, then it's up to the reasonable ones among us to overpower the extreme right and center the party a bit.

The dumbest thing we can do is leave the party and become a one party nation. That accomplishes nothing either and might be even more dangerous. I will concede that we have our work cut out for us.

Not hardly. My statement has plenty of support. You cannot refute it. All you can do is fire off negative comments and ignore the honest truth.

You are a large part of the problem, however, you cannot acknowledge that fact. The majority of us here have solutions.

You really need to go. You just aren't welcome. We all know it.
