    Hi guys!icon_biggrin.gif

So I've been taking pre-workout supplements for years, but never anything for after.

Any ideas of what to use? icon_confused.gif

    Food.

I try to have a meal within an hour of finishing my workout. Or if I'm using protein powder, that's when I try to have it. With my weird schedule, sometimes the workout gets smeared out all afternoon, so I just in in the middle somewhere.

Once in a while, buying stuff from bb.c, they send "free" tubs of post-workout stuff along with some other purchase. I've never gotten into using them, but I've got a couple of jars and a bunch of little packets. The main ingredients seem to be glutamine and creatine (plus more whey.) Maybe I'll start slugging some down after my bike ride. If the fricken snow ever melts.

This is what I use (mostly supermicronized whey protein isolate):

Yes, it is expensive. I only use it post *hard* workout. It mixes very easily in water.

I also recommend BCAAs, Glutamine and a couple gummy bears.

Dunno. If you look at the full supplement program recommended by any company, you're supposed to swallow this upon arising but two hours before a workout and one hour after a meal. And this other thing 20 minutes before a workout but two hours after a meal. And this other thing twice a day but not within an hour of a meal. And eat five times a day. And sleep nine hours. And work out in there somewhere... It doesn't add up.

I can't help suspecting that the main benefit of all this crap may be drinking all the water that it takes to wash it down.

You need to have a shake AS SOON as you finish your workout. I just do a basic protein + Gatorade. And eat after that...

Exactly. I thought this was common knowledge with guys who workout, especially those paying $79 a month.

There's a bit of a dispute about that on the interwebs, and that it's not necessary to consume shakes or food right after your workout. I do it anyways, cuz I'm usually hungry as hell after my workouts. And shakes are an easy way to consume some extra calories without making my stomach feel too full/bloated.

Yeah, someone put forward this 'eat protein within 30 minutes of your workout or you will shrink up and die' meme and it kind of caught on. My feeling is it makes sense to put protein and BCAAs in your body right after a hard workout, not that anything horrid will happen if you don't. Over the long haul, if you don't eat enough, yeah, obviously that isn't going to work for muscle building.
