I don't necessarily know if you should boycott watching the Olympics cuz of all the Russia issues. That's a Russia thing. You should be watching to support and cheer on your country's Olympians. If you have a beef with Russia, then I'd say don't buy any of their products, don't visit there etc. But the athletes had no choice but to go there to compete so...I say support YOUR country.

I'm not watching the Olympics. Sorry, the Russians are Neanderthal barbarians. Plus they're anti-gay.

I'll catch the headlines, see which US athletes have won medals. But I'm avoiding the whole Soviet-era show.

venue35 saidWell animal control in the States is pretty top notch (i hope)...
You don't really see stray dogs anywhere...
I wish i could say the same for greece...
All the cats here eat anything they can find from garbage dumpsters...
They multiply so quickly cause there is no animal control.

But im afraid that in the states if a cat or dog is found and not wanted after a period of time it is eventually put to sleep which is a sugar coated way of saying "it's killed". Someone correct me if im wrong here.

I thought the Greek government covered this problem in a fiscally sound and creative way, by encouraging immigration of those who are desperate enough to gladly eat said stray cats, thus saving the tax payer from having to fork out for it.

    Genius, I must admit.

Russians aren't anti-gay. Their leader is. There are many Russians there that are protesting their tits off.

The news just now was talking about how the Sochi commentators give a lot of respect to the male competitors but fluff off the female athletes when they report on them. Shameful.

Little good it does. And gays are still being beaten on the streets, or haven't you read?

I didnt know about the dog thing...

But today I read about the young healthy giraffe they killed in Copenhagen zoo because he wasn't "breeding material". They killed it in front of the public (children obviously included) and then gave the body to the lions for everyone to see...... Other zoos offered to take the giraffe, or they could simply neuter it, but decided to make a public slaughter instead.

I'm watching, because I enjoy watching the games, it's a tradition for me. No amount of boycotting is going to force Russia to change.

i'm sorry but this made me chuckle for some strange reason. maybe it was the coldness in the manner that they did it or the way that you wrote it. so fucked up.

I didnt mean to make it sound cold, I think that was totally fucked up. Thousands of signatures were collected and the zoo recieved offers from other zoos that would take the giraffe and they killed it anyways, And then the director of the zoo gave his "scientific explanation" that was some Human Centipede level fucked up shit. When I read that I couldnt believe it.

I think that not watching the Olympics is just unfair for your country's athlete and your own love of sport, if you've got it.

I hate, HATE Russia for what they've done and are still doing to dogs, cats, gay people, and their population in general, but the Olympic actually HELPED that situation by bringing the whole world's attention to the bullshit that's happening over there.

At this point, Russia has NO REASON for not being ashamed of their shit. Every one's jumping to support the gay community there, and LGBT people in general. Olympic Games or not, the situation would've been the same and would've been ignored... So this is a good thing IMO.

Plus, I love to see Canada destroy Russia in diverse disciplines icon_biggrin.gif

Well put. It's a sad reality in this case, but it has brought a lot of media attention to it and I feel LGBT rights are more supported now than ever before (here in North America)(all the corporate, government and individual support, etc.) Let's hope this wave reaches overseas where it is needed!

Slaughtering an innocent animal in front of children makes you "chuckle?" Dude, you are one fucked up asshole. You are so full of hatred and violence it's beyond belief. You should be in a mental institution.

You're going to boycott the Olympics because Russia kills dogs? Do you boycott the rest of the world for the other 150 billion animals that are killed every year for food? Or what about those that get cut open while still alive for "experimentation" or lambs that are sliced up for their skin?

I'm guessing you don't partake in most modern culture, or eat meat, do you?

Every other day there is another disclosure of nuisances in Russia and the circumstances that cast a shadow over the Olympics.
I have never seen a more ridiculous sporting event than the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Killing off stray dogs is pretty common in many countries that host big sporting events though. It's not only Russia. 2010 is was the same in South Africa hosting the FIFA World Cup. It was heavily criticized, but did anything change? No. "Just support your team, that's all you should think about" was the common reaction and hence a subtle veil of ignorance was cast over it.

The slaughter of stray dogs, the miserable conditions of the hotels and hostels, the discrimination of homosexuals... all these things will be heavily discussed for a few more weeks. And then everything's back to what it was before and no one talks about it again. That's how it always went because no one has the guts to change something.

Yeah, blame the victims. That is not normal behavior for dogs and you know it. The dogs are attacking for one of two reasons. One, they've been beaten, kicked and harassed to the point they see humans as aggressors (big shock), or two, they've starving to death and smelled food in the woman's bags. And I suppose if they were hungry enough, they (might) attack a human so they could eat....just as a human would kill and eat a dog if he were hungry enough.

These people behave like sociopaths. No empathy for gay people, and will even beat, torture, humiliate and kill them for no other reason. And let dogs starve to death without helping them in any way. Something very very wrong with these savages.
