I've noticed lately that no one sells sponge mops anymore. How can such a basic item like this suddenly disappear from stores? I only see those disgusting rag mops now.

What item or product do you wish would come back?

Branch out; there are other stores besides Neiman Marcus.

ummm... I THINK my supermarket still carries those. I'll check next time I'm there. We have a Brazilian cleaning lady, who drags old rags around the floor under her bare feet, doesn't use a mop of any kind. I know WE don't have or use a mop.

Ummm.....I don't shop for mops at Neiman Marcus. I've looked at Walgreens, Rite Aide, Family Dollar, Ace Hardware and several other places, but honestly I avoid Walmart as much as possible.

Speaking of cleaning products.....I can't find a dust buster anymore either. Although I haven't looked that hard, every place that used to carry them no longer sells them.

Home Despot has a whole aisle of cleaning products.

But you know... farm house, dirt, snow, dogs, cats, boots, firewood, ash... Only a good old fashioned string mop and bucket does any good. Maybe those sponge things would be OK for final touch-up. But... I never get that far before it all goes back to square one.

I know I bought a dust-buster not too long ago. I use them inside the glove box and the sterile area in my lab, but they never last for long. Maybe it was Costco?

The sponges hold a lot of bacteria, so I think they might be on their way out. Did you try Homo Depot? Target'? WalMart I think would have them, but you said that's out. How about Amazon

Incandescent light bulbs. They wasted energy, but I miss them!! I hate CFL light bulbs for their harsh light, and I read they give off UVC rays, which cause cancer. I really don't like LEDs much either.

Sobakawa pillows. The new ones aren't the same as the one I had about fifteen years ago.

Sketchers Shape-ups. I think they were sued and discredited, but I liked them, lol.

S'mores cereal. Why would they get rid of that???icon_mad.gif

I saw your pic of feet in some kind of sandals. She shuffles around our tile floors with wet rags under her feet. So how is her birthday relevant? I'm missing that connection. icon_question.gif

CFLs now come in different color temperatures, that can simulate incandescents. I'm not sure about the LEDs, still relatively expensive, I'm starting to use them as night lights around our place.

Those are slippers with mop fibers on the bottom. I was saying they would make a good gift. icon_biggrin.gif

There is literally nothing positive about incandescent bulbs that you can't get with LED's. LED's come in a wide variety of subtle shades....anywhere from a very warm light (even warmer than incandescent) to a very cool tone that will make your house look like a lizard cage if that's what you want.

Home Depot has them, a lot of super markets have them... Don't know why you're having difficulty finding them

I think people are buying those wet Swiffer things. So stores are probably less inclined to carry the old sponge mops these days.

Yeah, I think that's it. And those things are horrible for the environment!

Well, environment is one thing. But they just don't clean well because you can't "scrub" with them. Apply any heavy pressure, you'll break it. icon_confused.gif

They even have ones that can change color and temperature via a smartphone app.

*sigh* Unless you were dumb enough to build a too-big house and go overboard on the track-lighting so that you have more than a hundred of the damned things to replace icon_redface.gif

Yeah... a former houseboy seems to have liked them. There were three or four (probably broken) in the storage closet and a bunch of the overpriced solution. I just threw it all out last summer without trying to figure it out. Looked like a typical marketing scam.

    AH! OK.

Well, I dunno, she gets all our old towels and knit T-shirts for cleaning the tile floors. But maybe she would like that, I could ask. I let her pick whatever vacuum cleaner she wanted me to buy her (she chose an Oreck!), so I suppose I could get her some mop slippers if she really wants them.
