HPWASHINGTON -- It seems Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has taken up a new cause in Congress -- defending states' right to regulate marriage.

Amid a wave of court decisions striking down anti-gay marriage laws in states, the Texas Republican introduced a bill to the Senate Wednesday to amend U.S. law "with regard to the definition of 'marriage' and 'spouse' for Federal purposes and to ensure respect for State regulation of marriage." Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) is the bill's only co-sponsor so far.

    ...

Cruz warned of the dangers of gay marriage a month after the Supreme Court decision in a July 2013 interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network. "If you look at other nations that have gone down the road towards gay marriage, that’s the next step where it gets enforced," he said. "It gets enforced against Christian pastors who decline to perform gay marriages, who speak out and preach biblical truths on marriage."

I'm sorry but when it comes to issues like marriage, it needs to be binding across ALL states and territories. I'm surprised he didn't go into a rant explaining why he doesn't like interracial marriage and its dangers and then exalt the virtues of slavery and its divine invocation. icon_rolleyes.gif

Sorry Ted, but gay marriage WILL be legal in ALL states and territories just like interracial marriage is

    What a moron.

You say that as if you think evolution ceases.

"I'm not getting all lost in other views each person has. The point is - and the point of the topic - that the Cruz position is that his state should decide. And that is the position that Obama "evolved" to: "Let the states decide.""

Cruz position is that no matter how many States decide in favour of it, even if they all do, once that happens it still can't become a federal law, and gives States a free rein to go back and change their minds making it again illegal or even a crime.

Meanwhile in Cruz's country, Canada, and he still hasn't revoked his citizenship from what I understand, it's been federal law for almost ten years.

What fun, a non citizen of the US becoming Prezzie. I'm amused that a non citizen in your country can become a junior Texas State Senator.

A non citizen was instrumental in shutting your country down, too.

..and people complain when I comment about US politics.

    The irony is delicious.

This is EXACTLY what President Obama's position "evolved" to (in an election year, coincidentally). That each state should decide.

Entirely misleading, with a grain of truth.

In other words, typical of the author.

The President's position has continued to evolve. President Obama does not oppose courts striking down anti-gay "states rights" laws. Cruz does.

I hope Cruz and the Republican Party catches up to the President and the rest of the country sometime soon.

I read that some Kansas lawmaker wants a bill that would deny the sale of goods and services to gay people on the basis of religion.

Or maybe....it's a trap! An evil plot to take over your country, one Canadian senator at a time! Bwahahahaha.

Then once in power, turn your country into Commie States where there are euthanasia stations instead of Dr's offices and you'll all be forced to have maple syrup enemas!

Those snowstorms and Cruz are the first signs of the Canadapocalypse!
