    Is anyone else following this?

I don't understand why the three teens who survived and were right there were never called as witnesses.

He'll be acquitted, no doubt. It's not hard to predict this ending, since the trial isn't about facts, but social attitudes.

He's going to prison. He didn't just kill the guy, he shot up the car, then after he went for pizza. He is going to have to go into protective custody when he goes to prison, or he'll be dead within a month.

His girlfriend's testimony was pretty damning. I can't imagine what there is to deliberate about.
Still, is no one else curious why none of the other three teens who were in the car were called to witness what they saw? It makes no sense.

kiwiLifter saidThose kids were obnoxious, blasting the stereo and mouthing off. I have no sympathy for them.

Its like that shooting in a cinema by a retired cop recently.

A country up to its balls in firearms combined with a culture missing any consideration towards others is like mixing nitro and glycerine. icon_lol.gif

So just because they were obnoxious, loud and mouthing off they deserved to be shot. You really are a fucked up individual. Maybe you deserve the same fate for your fucked up attitude.

    You are missing the point.

If you are an inconsiderate jerk around people with guns do you think that this behaviour will increase or decrease your probability of living out a long, peaceful life?

It doesn't matter how loud they were playing their music, it's a free country, if you don't like it then move on. You don't get tell people shit. If you have a gripe, call the police and let them handle it. Weapons are legal so that you have the ability to protect yourself, not to make some little chicken shit piece crap feel like he is a big man and can tell everyone what to do. I hope the burn his ass but good.

What exactly is considerate? We all have a different tolerance levels so that is subject to ea individual. They were at a gas station, not a residence. Ppl are inconsiderate on a daily basis and not even aware half the time cause they got other shit on their mind keeping them preoccupied... God man we'd all be dead.

Its sad that "free" to you means being obnoxious and disrespectful to your fellow citizens. I'm sure that was not what the US founding fathers were thinking of. Helps to explain why the USA is such a basket case these days though.icon_rolleyes.gif

You still won't answer my other question. If the races were reversed would you still be saying those kids deserved to die?

Stop with the race crap, quit looking for racism in everything you read, it makes you look like a racist.

Public space is exactly that. How we share our space is the tricky part. I do remember being a teen and most teens are young and inconsiderate. You can't tell me everything you've done in life has been considerate and not possibly infrindged on someone elses space.

I pointed out that a general decline in civility plus an armed citizenry = dynamite.

No, what you indicated is that murdering someone for incivility is understandable. The hypocrisy is self evident.

It's a bizzare case, but all the posters above are totally out in left field. Juries will do what juries will do. They are all unique and all unpredictable. No one knows what this jury will do. If they acquit him, it doesn't mean that juries in Florida think it is OK to randomly shoot black teen-agers. An acquital would just meant that they actually believed the shooter when he said he was in fear of his life because a gun was being pulled out.

As to the shooting, there are two possibilities:
    1. The shooter was totally crazy - and he shot at the car because the guys would not turn down the music. Even in Florida, even a black-hating guy would have to be crazy to do that for this reason. This isn't Nazi Germany, where it would be OK to kill a Jew. Maybe he actually was insane, but he did not plead insanity.

    2. The shooter actually thought that the one guy was pulling out a gun (in which case he should have waited until he could actually see a gun pointed in his general direction before shooting.)

In any event, he does not appear to have been a mentally stable person, so maybe he should not have been allowed to carry a gun in the first place.

Look, it was a public place, not private property, so he really had no standing to tell anyone to turn their music down and if they told him where to go, well that was their right to do so, since they weren't threatening his safety to begin with it.

You are one of those people that needs to jump, seriously, lol.

What's sad is, during the trial the "defendant" actually stated the teens turned the music down, or the music was not as loud as before. Sad

It is not that. You contradict it in your second sentence by defining a public space as a SHARED one.

Again, you are trying to spin it as some kind of random act of violence, I'm saying with human beings crammed into urban centers like rats in a cage being civil is going to be very important especially if your fellow citizens are armed.

So are u saying pubic space is not shared space? Pubic space is for all who occupy, so would'nt that be shared?
This is a random act of violence as most ppl behave rationally and don't get so short circuited they open fire on a car full ppl because the radio was too loud.icon_exclaim.gif

What I understand is if you are going to be an annoying jerk to people packing heat, you are increasing your chances of an early death. icon_lol.gif

Yet you, yourself, are an annoying jerk on these forums daily. I guess this is different, though, as you're not likely to get shot for it. icon_rolleyes.gif
