Who would make up your top 5 most underrated list? Mine:
.LBJ - Far bolder social reformer than JFK and had the congressional contacts to bring home the bacon.
.Truman - Took courageous decision to drop 'the bomb' - the only way Japan was ever going to surrender. Had the balls to bring Gen MacArthur into line.
.Ford - Fairly unremarkable as President, but modest and decent (and, most importantly, not Nixon).
.Taft - Large, jovial, conscientious. Caught in the intense battles between progressives and conservatives. Got scant credit for the achievements of his administration.
.Garfield - Attacked political corruption and won back for the Presidency a measure of prestige it had lost during the Reconstruction period.
