Well it does help to explain the political policies of Right Wingers, who are largely associated with Christian fundamentalism and literal interpretation of the Bible, and are obsessed with smiting gays and anyone else who disagrees with them.

No compromise, no discussion, no logical arguments, just smite them down. When you worship a deity that defies reason as portrayed in the OT, is it any surprise if you disdain reason in your own personal & political life?

I wasn't offended, frogman, and I'm Christian. I read the link's article with wry amusement, because it aptly points out the huge error in taking the bible literally, and believing in its inerrancy.

The old testament tells me exactly how NOT to think of God. icon_wink.gif

Is that the Christian or the Jewish fundamentalist view of the so-called "old testament"?

Even the orthodox do not read the first five books of Moses strictly literally but rather also as allegory, numerologically (each letter a number), in consideration of the Midrash (discussions by rabbis), as well as an esoteric reading.

So it's silly for Christians to point at a few lines and declare that as the Jewish characterization of their God. It is not that simple. Whether or not someone believes in the five books, in relating Torah at that level of misunderstanding, you would be wrong to make such declarations.
