It is just as well there was a fairly heavy media presence or I think they would have received even worse treatment. I am not sure that any law enforcement agency in any olympic park, in any country, would have tolerated such a protest. The real issue, however, is the conduct of the uniformed police/security guards or whatever they were. They have clearly had little training in correct restraint and arrest techniques and the force they used was totally disproportionate to the threat posed by the protesters. Clearly, the billions Putin forked out to stage the Sochi Games did not extend to police training. It all looks very 'third world', but then, what do you expect from a government that turns a blind eye to public gay bashing?
