A friend returned from business in SE Asia, India, China and Japan. He told me about his "new fetish" of having his earwax cleaned by any of the practitioners on the street.

I am curious if anyone has had this experience? Was it pleasant, did it actually help clean your ears? Could you hear better?....He was telling me that the Japanese(of course!) have turned this into a "ritualized" event that is scheduled for your private enjoyment.... icon_cool.gif

Ear wax picking is an Asian thing. I wouldn't call it a fetish, but it's quite satisfying afterward. Go to any Asian supermarket and you'll see a variety of these things..

But I wouldn't recommend it for caucasians. Asians have dry/flaky earwax. So regular q-tips aren't very effective. Caucasians have moist/gooey earwax. So using a picker will most likely just spread it around and you'll be picking at your ears all day. Not good.

If you think earwax build-up is causing hearing problems for you, go see your doctor. He'll flush your ears with a warm solution, and it will be much safer. I had my mine done last month. Felt great. icon_cool.gif

Seriously, do it! The warm water/solution going deep into your ear feels great. And knowing your ears are squeaky clean, feels even better! icon_biggrin.gif

I use a solution of alcohol and/or hydrogen peroxide and that works great as well.

My mom used this after I went swimming as a child. I believe my Aunt that's a pharmacist said it's best to use both rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide.

Ummm... I've had my ears cleaned by an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor and I could definitely hear better, but it was not orgasmic. Now the way music sounded afterwards was like HD for the ears. I made him clean both ears to even the one ear out -- I thought I had water stuck in my ear for 3 days and over the counter things didn't help (it was apparently ear wax). Yes, I'm bad and use the occasional q-tip. But a little ear wax is healthy, like mucus -- it keeps things from entering into our bodies.

I use a q-tip down into the ear canal and twirl it around and rub it in there after every shower. Seems to be doing the job; I've been doing it all my life even though they say you shouldn't stick it into your ear. Of course you have to be careful and not hit the eardrum.

I definitely wouldn't want someone else poking around in my ears; too easy to hit the eardrum and damage it.

Some earwax is good. It is anti bacterial... Right?

Those things definitely don't look like they're for one use; i.e., disposable. No doubt they're washing them. But even if they are washing and reusing them the fuzzy pom pom ones I'd guess have some ear wax residue down deep in them. Yuck.

It's like I explained previously. Asian ear wax is dry/flaky. The little fuzz ball helps sweep out the flakes after. icon_biggrin.gif

I don't know if it's antibacterial, but when the ENT doctor said it was as clean as a whistle. I wanted the other one done too and he said it's actually healthy to have some ear wax in the ear. It was annoying though my one ear was now significantly louder -- so he cleaned the other one too. Yes, some earwax is healthy -- too much, just like a stuffy nose, is bad.

LOL.. it does feel a bit like a brain wash, since the pressure inside your head is very foreign.
Amazing the junk that comes out of your ears when it's done properly by a Dr.
