I just finished episode 5. I found myself a lot like Patrick (Portrait by Jonathan Groff). We are both paranoid about ADIS, we are both selfish in bed (not because I have bottom shame), we both wanna get married and we are looking... ...

Many people critise this show being BORING. But I think these characters reflect real gay people in life. What do you think? Do you like it?

I like the show. Patrick reminds me of me, and my name is Patrick! So I am staying tuned in. I think one of his friends is going to tell Patrick he is "slumming it" in tonight's episode.

Who cares if someone posts on an old topic? It's not for me to judge how much anyone pays attention on this site. icon_razz.gif

Episode 5 was really well done. Seems like the show is getting interesting now. Reminded me a lot of Weekend.

Here in San Francisco, we have a group of guys who get together and watch multiple episodes.

It's a Meetup group called the SF-NorCal RealJock Sports and Social Group

I think the 30 minute format harms the show and prevents it from generating much narrative momentum. Once I start to get sort of interested, the episode is over. It's not a sitcom, I think it would work much better if it was on for an hour each week. I's vastly, vastly superior to Queer As Folk.

    True Detective is fantastic.

After watching several episodes, there's nothing compelling about the show. The episodes lack fluidity from one episode to the next; one episode seems disjoint from the last. The characters aren't really that interesting and neither are their story lines. There is only 2 episodes left and I can't see how this gets another season.

Yeah um, this show is terrible. Looking brings me the same level of excitement I get when I'm tearing the top off of my tapioca pudding.

Garbage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HBO should have known better. I can't believe this ended up on a premium network. It isn't even good enough for basic cable.

I think the problem the show faces is that 1) it's main characters are incredibly hard to like. The "artist" is downright despicable, and the "lead" Patrick, isn't far behind. Each character basically represents a fairly reprehensible "stereotypical gay personality;" this is exacerbated more so when said characters interact with other more interesting/honorable characters (Ricky the hairdresser, The wealthy Florist).

and 2) Just about nothing happens. This of course can be worked around when you have great scripting and characters, but without those things present, one just feels like he is trapped at a party his casual friend brought him to, filled with awful people he barely knows, counting the minutes until he can make a courteous exit.

...who am I kidding, I'll watch the last two episodes, but I can't for the life of me reason why.

I have watched all 5 episodes, and -- for the most part -- have enjoyed them. I can understand why some may find it boring, because not a whole lot goes on in each episode. The audience is somewhat like a voyeur into the semi-normal lives of these gay guys (and voyeurs usually see a whole lot of nothing while in pursuit of a short, titillating moment).

However, this format worked amazingly well on episode 5, which was basically a conversation between two guys interested in each other who were trying to get to know one another. I was really drawn in by the stories that each shared of their past. It was like deja vu to me of conversations I have had with guys that I really liked and wanted to develop a relationship with. As each character told about their past, it felt like I was the one singly being given the pleasure of hearing this information. It made the stories they told so interesting to me.

I sat down and tried to watch it one day...but I just didn't find myself interested in it.

Fortunately HBO has put the five seasons of "Six Feet Under" on On Demand here...so I'm able to see a vastly superior show with gay characters who play a rather important role in the story.

And fortunately "Shameless" is now shown here on Sunday nights...so I can watch that instead of "Looking."

Hosted a small RJ group last night to catch up on 5 episodes. It's OK, sometimes a little slow but it helps it's in SF so we're always trying to figure out where they're filming. It is pretty realistic of how a gay guy lives, I give it that. Some humor in what they say and what they do. I'll give it a continued chance to develop a more in-depth story line but if they don't add something more exciting, I think they'll have problems making it into anything long term.

It was very slow after the pilot but it's especially picked up in the past two episodes (episodes 5 and 6). Episode 5 was actually quite poignant and beautiful in that you could really feel the relationship developing. My boyfriend and I have actually gotten a kick particularly out of episode 5 because some of the same things we do were mirrored by them (He's 1/2 Mexican) and was actually able to relate to many of the things Richie did. It's honestly refreshing to really see yourself in some of the characters.

Having said that I wish it wasn't only 8 episodes because not sure how everything left is to be resolved in the next two episodes.
