These apps sound good but I usually just have this list:

    T shirt
    200 condoms
    Tooth brush

    End list.

In my backpacking days, I made a complete list of everything that I might possibly want to pack. I would go through it methodically when getting ready for a trip, both to be sure that I had what I needed and also to eliminate any extra items and weight. It was really a lot of work but very successful. I never found myself on the trail lacking anything.

These days I am lucky to remember wallet, cellphone, keys and glasses when I leave the house.

I used to have very early flights that I had to undertake for work. I could not be bothered to get up early to get a flight so I went out the night before, partied, got home at 4AM and started packing before leaving.

I slept my hangover off on the plane.

When I landed i would be amused by the crap I had packed. Only one shoe of the pair, and for some reason I thought packing coffee would be a good idea.

Probably packed that for when I woke up after the snooze on the plane.
