Interesting story. It should be noted that she won a settlement, she didn't actually win/lose a case.

Sounds like the school and the school board are more homophobic than ever. But then look where it is.

I still say let them secede as they keep threatening and have Mexico take them back. Just as they keep saying send the "wetbacks" to Mexico (a Texas politician just used that word again this week), let's not stop there but send the entire State back to Mexico. icon_razz.gif

I live in Texas and I agree. People here already think they live in a separate republic. But... Let me move home next year so I wont have to immigrate back into my own country. THEN we can cut Texas loose. Its embarrassing.

In no way, is that nearly enough money. Settling out of court results in NO change in policy or punishment for the school. They will do it again.

The school board's statement makes it sound like that's exactly what they're going to do.

I lived in Texas over 4 years, was a voting citizen for 9 (active US military can carry State citizenship with them to other States). The Texas State flag is the one they had when they were briefly a Republic, following independence from Mexico. Their mindset is still that of a separate country, that merely uses the US as a convenience.

Well, I find that INconvenient. Let them go, as their Governor says they want. We can still have their oil, it goes into the international market already. Whether they stay independent or get absorbed by Mexico (most likely, when it asserts old sovereignty claims), the US won't lose Texas oil. But it will lose the embarrassment of Texas being part of this country.

    1. This is in east Texas, it's not that surprising to me that this happened. The more rural areas in Texas (let alone ALL of the United States) have this mindset and are, for lack of better words, simple minded folk. (Not to say all are, but a good chunk.)

    2. To say that ALL of Texas has this mind frame and deserves to not be apart of this country is bull shit. I grew up there in those small towns and the big cities. I can honestly say with some of the places I've lived after living in Texas, there are areas where it's way worse (Arizona). Texas will always get a bad wrap for anything done in the past versus their constant push to make things better.

    3. I agree we need to take Rick Perry out of office. He's a disease along with George Bush.

I'm glad this girl stuck to her guns and finally won, even though it took years.
The teachers who outed her should have to pay the settlement out of their own pocket -- after they've been fired.
Instead, the taxpayers have to foot the bill, and the rednecks running the school say they did nothing wrong.
So many lessons learned here! Another proud day for Texas. icon_rolleyes.gif
