Pope will fly to Uganda to worship martyrs who rejected gay sex

Catholic martyrs were canonized after an African king had them executed for not sleeping with him

Interesting. This might suggest why they're so virulently anti-gay in Uganda. If there's a cultural history of male same-sex behaviour there...

Catholics only worship God. Hopefully the pope will use this as an opportunity to talk about tolerance. If not, it will be a sad day.

Broseph saidIs that just a touch hyperbolic to say he will "worship" them? Are Catholics allowed to worship anyone but god? I know the virgin Mary has some special significance but does even that approach "worship" with them?

I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that he may make a statement about tolerance of us. If he does not then screw him in the rear. Their new law is no joke.

Hyper Dulia (great or high honor) is given to Mary. She submitted to God's will completely and faithfully. She sets the example for humanity. That's why she is important to Catholics. Plus, Catholics believe she relays prayers to God/Jesus. Worship goes to God/Jesus alone.

I believe the Pope will speak about the new law. Uganda and Russia are aiming back to nazi style persecutions.

Thanks guys for talking back to what has a hint of dated anti-Catholic bigotry.

*sighs* That wasn't 'homoesxual advances'...it was rape.

Praise in this instance is not worshipping in a religious manner. Gaystarnews missed the boat on this one.

I wonder how many of those pages were straight and being forced? icon_idea.gif

Honestly, that headline made me think it's a trash site, ala Drudge. But maybe their other stuff isn't so ridiculous.

I've found there's a fair amount of good reporting on that site, but like any news media, a little sleuthing on the side is always a good idea rather than just taking them at face value.

    Relevant.

    Glad this came up.

I am Pastor Martin Ssempa's biggest fan. Looks like Ugandans have been eating DA POO POO since time immemorial.

I'm glad to see the number of people who pointed out that Catholics don't actually worship saints.

Maybe the Pope will take the opportunity to talk some sense into Uganda's leaders. Hey, I can hope!

you need to watch this: (complete program available on youtube)

and see if you have any hope of real change.

on the evil richter scale, the Vatican and Uganda aren't that far apart. biggest difference is the Vatican has about 500x the GDP of Uganda. and 500x the corruption.

I'm kinda disappointed in Frontline; this is nothing that hasn't been seen before. Gay guys are subjected to so many preconceptions. I'd like to think that we can judge people on what they've done, rather than what we think they're going to do.
