Do you think there is an HIV cure but they won't share it because it would kill the profits?

Millions (me included) think they must already have found a cure for HIV, but they are making billion$ out of the improved yet expensive HIV treatments so it won't see the light.
With so many years of research, the advances in technology and medicine don't you think it's weird they didnt find a cure by now, instead they sell expensive meds that people will have to buy for life?
Why would they give away a simple vaccine and stop all their profits at once? More like they will keep working on better meds to keep people alive even longer and milk the cow till the end.

What are your views on this?

    EDIT: So far we have:
    20 NO
    8 YES
    6 IT'S POSSIBLE

TheWhiteMan saidI don't think they'd be that cruel.

Really? You can't be that naive. Corporations along with governments have been destroying the environment and killing millions in order to make profit since forever. Do you think they would care to spread people from taking meds all their lives when they are making billions out of it? Come on..

    No.

Thousands upon thousands of ambitious people could go into more profitable fields but they would rather work in occupations that could yield an even greater reward. Prestige. I have no doubt the doctors, scientists, companies, etc that find a vaccination or cure will immediately release their findings. Money is nice. And you better believe they'll receive ton of money after finding a vaccine or cure. But making history, having millions thank you, hundreds worship you, making victory tours through all the major news networks, interview after interview praising your work, having your name and the name of your institution plastered on thousand of walls, doing what so many intelligent hard working people before you couldn't do and letting everyone know it; looking in the mirror and feeling like Jesus Christ...

that beats a couple million in the bank.

What a dumb thought. Maybe you don't understand how modern medicine works, but a cure for HIV would probably also treat other dangerous and deadly diseases, meaning the billion dollar drug for HIV treatment would be even more valuable for the other diseases.

I don't believe that individual scientists who developed the vaccine would keep that secret even if the corporations would.

It would have gotten out by now, some famous or well known scientist would rat about it. I think they are close to a cure though (relatively), maybe 10 to 20 years, if not, probably in this generations life time.

The thing about the virus, it is so damn smart, it can even go hide into your bone marrow and become dormant. It keeps learning and evolving.

I think the best cure is to know your status and don't be afraid to reveal it and pay it forward. I think if the stigma had been abolished that was developed in the 80s of it being a gay disease and the fact that it is associated with a taboo act (intercourse), many more persons would have been alive today.

Unfortunately, persons are forgetting the past, the rise in new infections among MSM especially in major metropolitan cities in the US and Europe is alarming. Too many young men take it for granted calling it a chronic disease, simply because of what the improved medications offer. Many still die from it each year. The reality is, if you don't have access to meds or stop taking them, you are no different from someone who had it in the 80s.

On top of that, you have more virulent strains which are resistant antibiotics. The other side of the coin that is not being revealed is how expensive the drugs are and the fact that you are on it for life. We need to talk more about the realities.

No, HIV is really that difficult a problem. There has been immense progress which started slow because of the stigma attached to the disease at the time. In the 80's, scientists were reluctant to study HIV because they thought it would hurt their careers. By the mid 90's anti-virals were developed.

I think the conspiracy theories develop because the expectations for cure are very high. We haven't cured cancer despite billions of dollars in research. Medical science has made great strides and progress, but no cure. Not for lack of trying.

I believe there isn't a cure yet because one hasn't been found. I don't think there is any cover up by the industry. That doesn't mean I think they won't try to cover up a cure potentially in the future.

I dont think so.. because for human race its a great challenge to find HIV cure than finding nemo or avatar. . So if they did found one, they would have shared the same

I don't think there is a hidden cure for aids. The syndrome did change the way medicine works. Nobody looks for a cure any more. Only treatment. There is no profit in a cure. Treatment is very profitable. Until there is a public approach to medicine like there was for polio and smallpox, there will not be any cures.

I'm glad someone else has this idea in mind. I've always suspected there's a cure out there but our government is too greedy to make it available to everyone. If you're a millionaire, that's different. If you middle or lower class, they give your things to keep it at bay. Curing diseases costs money; making them "tolerable" raises millions for the government

It's ridiculous to think they are withholding a cure for profit when really they are withholding a cure so they can continue to stigmatize us.

It wouldn't surprise me. I'm pretty sure cures for cancer and autism are being hidden as well.

Oh please! Of course there's a cure!! As it stands if the world continues to fund Aids/HIV research n meds the world would be bankrupt in about 15-20yrs. If its not the plan to bankrupt the world than I'm sure they'll "find" it at the last minute. In the meantime condoms, monogamy n jerking off are your best friendsicon_wink.gificon_wink.gif

I think it's part of human nature to respond to a problem by trying to find someone to blame for it.

    of course there is,

the military would never release a virus into the general population without having the vaccine for it already on the shelf. u really think grandpa (Reagan) was a feeble old buffoon?

    duh

This idea is on par with chemtrails and MMR-vaccines-cause-autism and any number of other ideas meant to sow confusion among the people. It's easier to control a confused, scientifically illiterate population, don't you know.

Its hardly possible. The company which discovers the treatment gets monopoly for many years. It will make thousand times more profit that is made from current medicine.

I thought WHO and countries are cooperating and each country has to develop a top 5 plan to end hunger/poverty, tuberculosis resistant infection, hiv infections, etc. So if the government is funding the researchers to find a cure. Wouldnt it be stupid of the government to waste funds into finding the cure when they already have it hidden if there really was a cure? I find its researchers vs pharmaceutical companies. The first trying to find a cure having world conferences to share knowledge while pharmaceutical wants to keep the antiviral meds productions as long as possible.

Its not a dumb thought! And a cure is not the same thing as a treatment.
a cure you take ones or twice, a treatment can go from now till the day you die.
O, and you also don't have to know the knowhow how modern medicine works to questing the effects of it.
