Pope likens "saving" gays to saving the rainforest

http://uk.reuters.com/article/lifestyleMolt/idUKTRE4BL2FE20081222VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict said on Monday that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behavior was just as important as saving the rainforest from destruction.

"(The Church) should also protect man from the destruction of himself. A sort of ecology of man is needed," the pontiff said in a holiday address to the Curia, the Vatican's central administration.

"The tropical forests do deserve our protection. But man, as a creature, does not deserve any less."

The Catholic Church teaches that while homosexuality is not sinful, homosexual acts are. It opposes gay marriage and, in October, a leading Vatican official called homosexuality "a deviation, an irregularity, a wound."

The pope said humanity needed to "listen to the language of creation" to understand the intended roles of man and woman. He compared behavior beyond traditional heterosexual relations as "a destruction of God's work."

He also defended the Church's right to "speak of human nature as man and woman, and ask that this order of creation be respected."

    (Reporting by Phil Stewart)

What a dick. Now I know, during "pope idol", in their secrect meeting, they just whipped out their cocks and select the biggest dick. I don't see him "saving" his pedophile priests, oh wait, he does, he's transferred them. Screw the kids (literally)

Oh well, what can one expect. I don't even get upset about this anymore. This guy should read up on the latest scientific research about the origins of same-sex attraction when he is also researching how to save the rainforests (as if he would know). I would hate to see him and the Catholic hierarchy trying to "save" people who are perfectly happy living their lives without the interference of religious busybodies.

We'd really like to see someone with a computerized model of the pope's rules as an evolving projection on the world's populations in graphs. Gay is a natural form of birth control - intentional or not. Just think, no birth control and everyone a Catholic and pumping out babies to the tune of 10 per household. How long does anyone guess the planet would last? Oh wait, I see, God would solve all our troubles for us. And ironically, the church tells parents to teach their children responsibility.

Guess what? Lickety-split armaggedon with famines, plagues etc and the foretold end of days, all of it self-fullfilling by the church's idiotic 'be fruitful' take on the bible. Well us two are 'fruit' without the 'full', thanks.

An example is the 10 commandments - thou shalt not kill. So when Hitler was waging war, had the rest of the world been adhering literally to that commandment, guess what would have happened? DUH!!!!

Can't someone come up with a computerized graphic projection of this population thing? Why hasn't anyone? Any savvy IT guys out there....?

It is because of things like this I declare myself an enemy of the Catholic Church (not Catholics). Whenever I get a chance, I like to kick the church when it is down. They are barbarians. And barbarians should be driven back into the caves they crawled out of.

    Fuck you.

Didn't the Catholic church recently admit that Gallileo was right? Maybe they will realize being gay is not a sin around 2300 AD? icon_rolleyes.gif

The church's bigotry is older than the heliocentric universe, so it might take longer. In the fifth century sodomy became sinful under Saint Jerome's misreading of Genesis where it entered a proto-canon law. Anti-Sodomy sentiments were popularized after the fictional martyrdom of Saint Pelagius in the tenth century. In the same century Peter Damian printed a widely circulated text on extracting confessions of Sodomy out of monks, compounding the Jerome's misreading and expending Sodomy (anal intercourse) to include all same sex sexual activities.

So we have had an apology brewing at least 500 years before Copernicus and Galileo, which they apologized for in 1992.

    So again, fuck you church.

What struck me about your post MZ, was your knowledge about the history of anti-sodomy laws as well as the date of 1992. I could have sworn it was 3 or 4 years ago. It is truly scary that 16 years has gone by that quickly.

It's things like this that really tear me up on the inside. I was raised as a Roman Catholic and was even Confirmed by choice about 3 years ago--before I accepted my sexuality but after I began to realize something was up. I think that my Church does teach very good values, but I hate its narrow-mindedness when it comes to controversial issues like homosexuality. Luckily, my local priest is very understanding of homosexuals (though he doesn't know I am one). A lesbian friend of mine had trouble with her parents when she came out to them, and my priest went to talk to her about it. He basically told her that any gay relationship is to be treated as a straight one. It was definitely a pleasant surprise to hear this!

My partner is a practicing Catholic. He focuses on the loving part of religion and does not pay attention to what the Catholic hierarchy or Priests necessarily teach in church (e.g. no sex before, marriage, no birth control, no gay sex).

I personally prefer a Catholic mass to the kind of hard-nosed Protestant religion I was raised on (although knowledge of the bible does come in handy watching "Jeopardy").

Did you know that Vatican City is the only place that hasn't been hit by the credit crunch? They have so much money stashed away they're gonna be lending it out.

They also forgave John Lennon, not long ago, for saying he was more popular the Christ. Having this evil institution that has raped the earth, and the souls of children and man, forced onto me, as a wee child. I have no time for this terrorist org.

I live in a protestant country, and we are better off for it, and have many catholics that have come to Oz, to get a life, they would never of had in their catholic countries. Lots of Irish, Italians, South Americans. have come to Oz, as Vatican City have erased their heratig, and their country too, and all the souls that live in it.

Now it talks about saving the world from Homosexuality. No the world needs respite, and freedom from Vatican City.

They also have a "fabulous" art collection I believe. The Vatican museum is well worth seeing. And of course the Sistine Chapel (created by "gasp" a practicing homosexual) is stunning.

I don't know anything about Pope Benedict, but I just thought I would mention that George Takei made me gay.
