Same sex marriage drive in Oregon

In Oregon, advocates for same sex marriage are gearing up for a ballot measure to overturn Oregon's law banning marriage between people of the same sex. While I'm more in inclined to going through the courts because the results have been more favorable, I'm a lot more optimistic that this measure has a good chance of passing. Although Portland has been quite liberal, out in the hinterlands the mood is far more conservative, and gays are not always treated with respect or welcomed. Nevertheless poll after poll across the country with the exception of the South shows Americans are accepting of gays, especially among the young; and they are quickly displacing the old, conservative anti-gay voters who are dying off.
Predictably, the r.c. church has reared its ugly head by mobilizing its members along with its allies the mormons, evangelicals, and fundamentalists. The archbishop of Portland Alexander Sample said the church would be joining the Protect Marriage Oregon coalition to fight any legalization of same sex marriage. Doesn't the r.c. church have anything better to do than fight something that is fast becoming a fait accompli? The archbishops of Minneapolis and Seattle marshaled their forces to stop same sex marriages, and voters rejected their pleas. Twice they struck out, and this will most likely be the third strike. When will they learn?
Pope Francis' said, "Who am I to judge?" in regard to gays. Apparently the message didn't resonate with the archbishop of Portland. Also, the pope said the church should stop obsessing about abortion and contraception along with gay marriages. Obviously he needs to get his message out more forcefully for the archbishops to hear.

Then the IRS needs to be forced to remove their tax-exempt status!

Portland along with Eugene have both always represented the progressive side of Oregon politics and social issues. Hopefully the effort to repeal the same sex marriage ban is successful and gay marriage becomes the law of the land in Oregon. It is long overdue. Hopefully a growing number of voters in Oregon's rural hinterlands beyond Eugene and Portland will approve of same sex marriage which would send a message to all FLAKY FUNDAMENTALISTS that they are no longer welcome anywhere in Oregon.

This gay marriage thing is completely out of control. I thought one of the perks of being gay was not ever needing to deal with lawyers when there was a break up. Do you gays not have any sense of self respect?

Yes I had long enjoyed the privilege of being in a same sex relationship, and when it went wrong we ourselves had to sort it out, and not the courts. but the leftist in Australia were to screw that up by getting us de facto status, and now the tax man also wants his cut.
