Don't ever work in the food industry, the city is full of pretentious scenesters. Good luck.

That's just not true. For every shallow douche in LA there are two more people that are very down to Earth. It also depends on the area. West Hollywood has a large percentage of fake people.

In regards to job prospects, you might want to mention what part of LA you will be living in. It is important to live near where you work. You might want to try contacting the highly rated restaurants first. If it is well run, then it more likely to a better place to work.

Person #1: "So, what do you do for a living?"
    Person #2: "I'm an actor."
Person #1: "Oh really? So, what restaurant do you work at?"

Watch TMZ. That's how you can find all hot restaurants and bars to apply to.

    Half serious, half joking. icon_biggrin.gif

You should also consider checking Santa Monica. Lots of hotels and bars that cater to the tourists and new money socialites.

Agree. I have never been anywhere in the World with so many complete wankers.

It's also the only place in the World I have been where bar tenders routinely manage not to serve you despite there being no one else at the bar. And then make no eye contact and expect a massive tip.

I'm ancient though and if you're over 25 in West Hollywood, you're dead.

The Abbey??? Why would you send the OP to THE most pretentuous bar on the planet? You have to be wearing a thumb ring AND at least one toe ring to get in the door. icon_rolleyes.gif

Agree. Nicely done venue but full of twats.

And Fiesta Cantina is a nightly frat party for 20 year olds. Truly nasty!

Good luck! Lisa Vanderpump is opening PUMP! right along from the Abbey soon and Cooleys is opening next door to that later this year. Worth a shot?

    Try Craigslist. Seriously.

And, thanks for taking visiting "Abbey" off my bucket list. (I live about two hours east of WeHo, so there.)

Lol, haha I see, well The Abbey is #1 gay bar in the world. They got voted yeah. Bartenders make ton of $$ at Abbey (and gogo boys too). Cantina seems fine, yeah young crowd on Thursday I believe. I guess OP can cruise along Santa Monica and ask all the bars/clubs. I like Rage in WeHo, I think they only like to hire Latino and Middle Eastern bartenders though.

God knows how The Abbey gets voted Number one gay bar in the World... it's nothing compared to the fun you can have in London

Yes I was told LA is nice place If you know who and whom to mix with. Just like any another places in the world there are cons everywhere.

There are few great awesome people there , like they say City of Angels, well there are Angels if you know the society at a level you're mixing of what you seek, nature will blend you well in who and all deserving around wherever you go.

That's why I don't ever conclude anything Until I'm there with my eyes and body, like many claim city of fakers base of their experience. Just as to Paris many claim French people are sarcastic! and snob!, NO! as far I've been the experience and the people that treated me and the warmness I got it was totally the opposite from what I heard. French people are really cool pleasant Love the culture with a much respect to privacy which I do adore.

Culver City is good. Lots of eateries there. icon_wink.gif

Agree about Culver City. Also you might consider Santa Monica and Venice.

"The Abbey is #1 gay bar "

I sure don't know about the 'gay bar' part of this anymore at least on my favorite night out, Sunday night.

I usually did Mickey's and Cantina. Although, I think that Mickey's had a much more fun crowd back before the fire. After, they were getting some of the AQs who should have stayed at Here. Not here silly .... over there .... at Here ...... no .... no.... not this here ... that HERE.

For all of the shit that WeHo gets, it's sure WAY more fun the (Attitude Queens with absolutely no reason) homosexual crowd here in Columbus. Queerness is so mainstreamed now that the bars are zero fun.

The Roosterfish in Venice is a cool gay bar. It's the opposite of the WEHO bars.....very chill, not pretentious at all. They grill on Sunday afternoons in the courtyard, which I really miss.

Agreed. Great staff, nice crowd, fun and laid back. The opposite of WeHo where most people just standing around looking awkward or anxious that someone else better looking is walking in!

I find people's opinions of Los Angeles to be highly entertaining and much more telling of the person with the opinion than the city itself.

Are there jerks in LA? Of course... like any big city. But since LA draws people from all around the world and from all walks of life, you can find any kind of person that you are looking for/want to spend time with. If you're partying in the see-and-be-seen Hollywood clubs, then you get what you deserve. But since there are a million other things to do in Los Angeles, it is not difficult to avoid these people... I managed to, having grown up in Southern California and living in LA for six years.
