Our generation will be known for nothing.
    Never will anybody say,
We were the peak of mankind.
That is wrong, the truth is
    Our generation was a failure.
    Thinking that
    We actually succeeded
Is a waste. And we know
Living only for money and power
    Is the way to go.
    Being loving, respectful, and kind
Is a dumb thing to do.
    Forgetting about that time,
Will not be easy, but we will try.
Changing our world for the better
    Is something we never did.
    Giving up
Was how we handled our problems.
    Working hard
    Was a joke.
    We knew that
People thought we couldn't come back
    That might be true,
    Unless we turn things around

But will he make the millions that Robert Altman's 14 year old son made for writing the lyrics to "Suicide is Painless?" for the movie "M.A.S.H." ?:

Through early morning fog I see
visions of the things to be
the pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see...

    [chorus]:

    That suicide is painless
    It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make
    all our little joys relate
    without that ever-present hate
but now I know that it's too late, and...

    [Chorus]

The game of life is hard to play
    I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say.

    [Chorus]

The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
and to another give my seat
for that's the only painless feat.

    [Chorus]

    MASH
The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

    [Chorus]

A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
'is it to be or not to be'
and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

    'Cause suicide is painless
    it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
...and you can do the same thing if you choose.

Someone posted this on FB. Sometimes it's the simple things in life that hold the answers to the most complicated problems. Let's not undermine his poem. Although I feel every generation has felt like this at one point or another -- maybe that very feeling is what allows innovations and history to be made.

I am pretty sure that I've seen this gag many times before. And in different versions. Never with any solid citation.

    Very interesting but flawed gimmick.
