My Italian husband's interpretation of St. Patrick's Day: he makes green tortellini. But then he also makes lasagna on Thanksgiving, so whadda yah expect? icon_rolleyes.gif

We brought homemade green cakes and the spinach pasta to share with our friends at this gay bar. That of course is decorated for the day, and serving green beer, while I diddle with my iPad.

What are you guys doing today? Or plan for tonight when you get home?

Green is my least favorite color. I like it very much where it belongs: on plants. There its vividness, variety and subtlety feels invigorating. Anywhere else, I find it kind of ghastly. icon_neutral.gif My mother's side of the family is Irish: O'Deal. Never really got into the whole blarney, four leaf clover, leprechaun, and st. paddy, thing, though. Closest was mom and dad keeping a bottle of irish whisky on a shelf in the bathroom for medicinal purposes, toddies and such when they had a cold. But that was it. So, nada for me today.

I'm enjoying the day off with some reading. DC federal government offices are closed because of the snow!

I might stop and have a green beer tonight, but I first have to focus on cleaning the house. We have an out of town guest flying in tomorrow so it can't just be the regular cleaning, but the extra cleaning you have to do when someone is coming to stay, like dusting under the bed, scrubbing the shower, and wiping spittle residue off the rim of the milk carton.

Actually we had an overnight guest this Saturday ourselves. An old friend we went to dinner with and later to a gay piano bar.

But he didn't want to drive home over 30 miles near midnight, and after drinking. So he asked a few days beforehand if he could crash with us overnight, a smart idea.

Which gave us advance notice, and we went through the same drill as you, clearing out and cleaning our office/spare bedroom, first time in some months. What a job! Thing is more like a storage room, my bicycle & golf bag in there, and loads of other crap.

Fortunately our cleaning lady came the day before, making the rest of the place presentable. But we don't have her go in the office, turning that into my job.

Guests are great, but can also be a major project.

    Éirinn go brách

    Erin Bracovich?

What's Julia Roberts got to do with this?

LOL! Éirinn go brách is closer to the Irish Gaelic, better known in the English rendition as Erin Go Bragh - "Ireland Forever"
