Did you ever excel in sports? Or have a moment where you was NO.1?

For me I had my shining moments in basketball and handball. In basketball I was on a 3 man team and we were the top ranked team for about 2 weeks. We lost the lead during the last week because we argued with the other team of who had most points and loss to a coin toss -_- lol

In handball my friend Paris and I won every tag team match we had on the courts. Though after awhile I believe it was pure luck.

I caught up with a friend I used to school in handball when we were younger and now I see he's a pro playing all over the world and winning titles. Very proud of his accomplishments.

I spent the last 5 years training in martial arts but not in a competitive atmosphere. I placed 3rd in my first tournament but now that i'm a blackbelt I know that the tournaments will be more competitive. I'm training to get back into the ring hoping that i'll have my chance to shine again.

    What are your stories?

When I was 15-16-17 I was the tennis champion at our country club for that age group. Didn't pursue it beyond that local amateur level, had no interest in serious competition. Plus I really didn't think I was all that good, it was just that the competition wasn't very tough.

Still, nice to get a few little trophies, and my name on a brass plaque on the wall. Meanwhile back in high school I refused to participate in any organized sports, even their own tennis team. I wasn't a joiner back then, strictly a loner.

I actually was a really good runner in my middle and elementery school days and even was asked to join the track team several times in my high school days, but I was more interested in the arts. I guess my shining moment was when my team won gold when we performed "eyes only for me" we competed nationally so that was even better. icon_smile.gif

Yeah! I was the captain of the football team in my high school senior years. I did it for a year and a half and would have completed the 2nd season if they hadn't expel me from the school. Then I played 3 months in the other school, I wasn't the captain but I scored more goals in 3 months than the other striker did in 7.

Discus and cricket bowling. I was easily the best at them. Sadly we only got to try each event one time during the whole of secondary school, so I will never know how awesome I could have been (probably not that awesome).

I played competitive water polo (point player) in college. We were NCAA Champions 2 years & 'Final Four' 2 years. I love the game, and try to see most 'home' games since I live close to my campus. I've indoctrinated my s.o. and he likes coming to all the games with me. I've played in a number of special reunion games with guys from my team........& we're still pretty good players!

In addition to H20-polo, I am very much into tennis, golf and I ran track back in high school.

paz_daddy saidnever did, sadly. used to play for the town i grew up in little league baseball team where there were like 12 other teams like almost 20 years ago. i sucked. icon_sad.gif the biggest highlight was me actually scoring a point. was never athletic to begin with. then again, i wasn't around sports to begin with because my school never had sport teams or shit like that for the kids. it was wack, man. that's why i feel that i got cheated because that school didn't have much opportunities so the kids could see their potential. they more of held us back. i more excelled in school even though that would change as i got older so after awhile, i excelled at nothing. icon_neutral.gif i did excel in certain things like art but if you have nobody significant like an art teacher or instructor or someone who can vouch for you, you begin to think that that's not what you're good at so i eventually gave that up. i got into rapping but gave that up too.

i sucked when i was a kid since i had no interest but then i realized how much fun it was but my handle was weak but got decent as i played along. and yeahthat sucks that your school didnt have any teams. Thats what the parks were for after class lol

I was a decent defensive lineman, but sometimes i was a safety. We didn't have a football team in high school though so we settled for saturday mornings on the abandoned field........good times

Agreed. I didn't understand at first but the rush you get on the field is amazing. Most NYC high schools had sports team but I just happened to go to one of the few that didn't have sports teams. The founder didn't believe in "competition" lol

Word and then they had to nerve to make a robotics team. I couldn't believe that. They also built a huge football field so OTHER schools could use it

HAHA I see it too now. I just got caught up in the moment cuz almost no one talks about sports on here or playing sports. Honestly I use to think soccer was boring but when I watched the world cup with my friends I noticed that even the referees have to be in shape cuz they're running with the players the whole game. It's much better to watch in person though. I went to my schools game and got to see it up close since I had to catch the ball in case it went out of bound. It was pretty fast paced

Back in high school i was a really good wrestler. I juggled between wrestling and football. And i won a lot of competitions and went to state every year. My senior year i was at the top of my game. And was part of the top 10 for state that year in high school wrestling. I went to the big match just feeling a win... i could feel it in my body and soul. Then i got my ass handed to me icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

That same year our football team was kicking absolute ass. Then we lost our final senior year game icon_mad.gif we were up the first half. Then the 2nd and 3rd we slipped after one of our quarterbacks got his knee fucked up. We ended up losing! lots of people were actually crying and going cray over the loss it was a bad year for final games icon_smile.gif but a great experience none the less.

I am on a small football team right now. And i also do MMA from time to time. None competitively though. I miss those days...

When I was 16-17, a sophomore and junior in HS. I did swimming and ran track/hurdles for a while. I got really fast in running and was pretty excel at the breast/freestyle stroke. Eventually, I kinda just gave it up and did some more martial arts in College (Tae Kwon Do). I got to a Blue Belt. That was more for like self defense. I didn't go out and started fights or anything. I still know some basic lethal kicks moves though. Haha, so don't mess with me. I got into a sorta fight with this one Korean guy in my martial art class. I sorta bust him up good. We were friendly though, not enemy.

Hmmm...I was the 15th-ranked marathon runner in the state of Massachusetts one year. Considering that Massachusetts has a huge running culture, that feels like something! icon_biggrin.gif Never got a dime or any sort of sponsorship, of course.

I think the time I ran cracked the top 300 in the country, which included runners living in other countries who ran US marathons.
