Pacifica has a long and storied history, and still features such leading liberals as Amy Goodman, the widely known host of Democracy Now! (on which journalists Glenn Greenwald and Jeremy Scahill are frequent guests), but it has fallen on hard times of late. Listenership, according Reese, is ‘extraordinarily low.’ During an average 15-minute period, just 700 people listen to its Los Angeles station, 90.7 FM KPFK, for at least five minutes, according to Nielsen Audio, which monitors radio ratings.

Pacifica used to be pretty cool, but Liberals don't really need radio to help them think.

Conservatives, on the other hand, are often confused and need Rush and Glen Beck to boost their lack of conviction.

Heh, yep, I'm sure that's what it is. I wonder why shows like Stephen Colbert get great ratings then. That said, a surprising number of liberals seem to listen to glenn beck and limbaugh.

Heh - it probably doesn't have anything to do then with how the mainstream press already covers liberal talking points icon_razz.gif

Did you read the rest of the article? KPFC was truly a train wreck. I didn't listen all that much because I just couldn't stand it for more than a few minutes at a time.

That's not to say that I don't listen to public radio as this one below was pretty much permanently on

"For L.A.'s other public radio stations, KCRW and KPCC, that number is 8,000 and 20,000, respectively. KPFK draws roughly one one-thousandth of all radio listeners in the Metro Los Angeles area."

as I think it was/is the best radio station I've ever listened to and one of things I really miss about LA. Not for left wing MSNBC type commentary, but for the music they play, which doesn't get airtime anywhere else I listen.

I listened to Limbaugh when I used to commute (mid 80's) - he was actually quite clever and funny, but then he turned into an angry idiot blowhard and it got really boring and tiresome - and he gained like 100 pounds

so he probably sold his soul for a buck

I never much listened to Rush. Good guy, but for the nationally syndicated I would much prefer Glenn Beck.

We had Larry Elder and Dennis Prager in the local AM talk radio market. Still preferred KCRW or KROQ a long time ago.

I so miss it. I will say that there's quite a bit on XM that's really good so that will have to do right now until I get back to LA

I do. I Enjoy Beck. Limbaugh, I just don't too much anymore.

Now, it's mostly David Webb (one of the Tea Party founders) on

Gary Bauer (yes that one) and Tom Rose are also very good.
