Hey… I was looking at a Castelli and Assos skin suit…. always wanted one… Has anyone got a skin suit… any suggestions and are they as nice as bib shorts for cycling.

Skin suits are really for time trialists, track riders, and perhaps triathletes. If you aren't racing, there really isn't a reason to wear them. Also, they don't have pockets, so anything you want to take with you is going to have to go in some saddle bag. The Velominati will scoff at you for wearing something so aero but then hanging a suitcase on your saddle.

If you have a tri bike and you are training, then that's fine. I don't think i've ever seen someone on a road bike in a skinsuit.

Roadies do wear skin suits. Some team kits include them as alternates to jersey/bib combos. Crit riders often wear skinsuits as the races are short and fast and the need for pockets is negated.

That being said, if you want to try a skin suit, then by all means. Look at Voler and even Hammer (voler makes Hammers, but hammers are cheaper due to advertising). You can probably walk away for less than $100.

Also some skin suits have a single rear pocket. Enough for a gel pack or a car/house key or something.

Lastly, if you race...well the old addage: never race with equipment you haven't fully trained with.
