Awwwwww, that sucks! She was cool! I remember her probably for the least of her roles, Yzma on The Emperor's New Groove, and the O-riginal Catwoman.

So terribly sad. Who can forget her massive club hit, 'Where is my man'? That voice is inimitable (well, I've never seen a drag queen 'do' her). And those growls just sent shivers up my spine. We'll miss, you, Eartha.

In the spirit of the season here's Santa Baby:

I love her redition of 'Santa Baby' and here she dies on Christmas - it will mean more for me now.

For those who only know her as Catwoman or Yzma, here's another sample of what you missed:

Yes the irony of her dying today of all days where her song "Santa Baby" is probably playing right this minute somewhere just makes it all the more sad. Eartha will live on in all of us, esp those of us who grew up watching her play the Cat Woman on the Batman series.

You know, we'll bet the place she went is real glad to have her, just think what music she's singin' there now.... heheh We'll bet if everyone became really quiet they'd hear her.

You got your wings of song, Eartha, so soar, high and loud!

No denying Eartha Kitt was great, but she wasn't the original Catwoman on the Batman series. That was Julie Newmar (of the "Too Wong Foo Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar" reference).

Love Eartha Kitt! Sadden with her death.

I met here back in the summer of 97 at the SF AIDS walk. I was just starting to date by future husband, when a friend of mine gave me tickets to get into the VIP area which served a buffet of breakfast food. I was very hungry and there was a woman blocking the food talking w/ some gay guys, I gentle moved her out of the way so I could get my FOOD, my future husband informed me that I had just shoved Eartha Kitt!!!!! I quickly apologized and she made some funny statement of never saying a so eager to get to buffet food.

Eartha Kitt was a true talent that you dont see these days.

Ahhhh, damn. Very sad news. No more rolling Rs. At least we'll remember her in her music, like the definitive "Santa Baby."

She's always been cool as hell. I'll always remember the rolling Rs and her role in Boomerang.

How sad!!! It is a tremendous loss!!! Here's one of favorite roles she played; Boomerang (1992) starring Eddie Murphy & Halle Berry

I used to tell Eartha Kitt jokes and had a puppet of her for some stand-up shows. Very saddened by her passing. We can all wish and hope to be that active at 81. Some irony though that it was a Dec 25 death/Santa Baby connection.
I saw her in concert once and she was trying to do this backwards bend, and purred "I'm getting too old for this shit." The crowd erupted in laughter or course. She also mentioned finally having a "chart hit" with the next song, then said, "Thank you boys," and starting into "Where is my Man."
    Definitely a gay advocate

I'm sure it would have lightened her heart to know that she'll be forever remembered by her legions of gays worldwide, without ever having to worry about any more wrinkles! Saw her many times., met her only once... Wonderful woman; masterpiece diva, honorary gay

What a disappointment! I saw her at Carnegie Hall on her 80th birthday and thought she'd live to be 100.
