Seriously, has anyone else noticed this? There are a whole slew of new profiles of seriously gorgeous guys being added on a weekly basis right now, some of whom are "Verified" without a verification photo. I've tried chatting with a few and some talk but then vanish. Most just ignore you. Do you think we've gone mainstream or is this someone's idea of Troll2.0?

They go on tumblr, grab a hot pic or two, then come here. They get exposed (pretty quickly these days, what with Google image search) and then slink away.

    There is!
    I was noticing that earlier.

They are probably mostly fake accounts though. . . icon_cry.gif

the thing that shocks me though is that some of the profiles are pretty fleshed-out and the guys who DO respond aren't trying to get nudez, or cam or anything else that reeks of spam. And its not just one or two pics, its like ten in the general album and then a few in adult and private. I'd like to think that some of the marketing RJ has been doing is paying off and its a legit influx of new members but at the same time I know better icon_rolleyes.gif

Once verified and initially using an actual verification photo, what stops anyone from uploading fake photos after that? I really don't believe that administration is checking that closely to compare new uploaded photos to the original verification. In fact, from all the fake verified profiles that have been uncovered in the past, I know they can't be.

There is also a problem with keeping your verification photo visible. In the future it could allow someone to steal that photo and another face photo for comparison and then become verified using your photos.

Fakes. Pics were probably lifted from Tumblr or Instagram.

there is a ridiculously simple solution here. Remove the ability for people to clandestinely change their usernames and then simply require a verification photo of you holding a sheet of paper with...gasp...your username on it. Better yet, tell them to use college-ruled notebook paper instead of a-baby-could-photoshop-dat-shit white computer paper

I think video verification can eliminate a good portion (but not all) of the fakes.

that's an even better idea since the amount of time it would take to forge a new video would be impractical. You could just require a 10sec mpg of "please say 'i am *username* applying for profile verification on Realjock.com'" and then keep that video in your video section. Seriously, anyone else who's interested in this should write the moderator and suggest it. I bet we could get it done, especially with the prevalence of camera-enabled cellphones now.

Problem is that it would take longer for the admin to review/approve. So that idea probably won't fly, since they seem intent on doing as little work as possible on this site. But it might be a good way to "self verify" instead of (or in addition to) the regular verification method.

I bet it doesn't. Unless they're being completely lazy and just verifying anyone who applies, even if the photo is an obvious chopjob, it has to take them between 5-10 seconds to look at the photos.

I'm not getting how your voice 'verifies' that you're *not* opening up a sock account though? I could open a bunch of accts, record "I am _______ applying for verification" to all of them in slightly different voices, no?

I think it is supposed to be a video recording not just the voice.

    Semi off topic..
I think funniest verification photo I've seen was a guy holding the "Realjock 123" sign.. but his head was cropped. And in his profile, he wrote something like.. "I'm not sure why my verification photo never got approved". icon_lol.gif

YourName2000 saidGot it, lol. Sorry, I thought you meant send a video with just audio...I was confused. icon_redface.gif

I think even a quick video would be prohibitive for a lot of members. And not just for the cost of the tech, but the ability to use it, lol. Look at how many guys haven't even managed to rotate their damn pictures. icon_lol.gif

Do you guys agree that 99.99% of the sock/troll accounts are probably coming from the US, Canada, Australia/NZ, and Britain? (And I mean *really* coming from...as in those IP classes, not what they list in their profile.) I kinda favor a two tier verification process...something more troll-resistant for 'problem' countries, but make the process as easy and no-cost as possible for everywhere else.

actually if they made it compatible with the video formats used by smartphones it would be as simple as taking a video of yourself either with a front-facing camera or in a mirror and uploading the file. Most smartphones are so idiotproof now that it would be a lot easier i think than relying on computer webcams and whatnot.

After scrolling through the first 4 pages of New Profiles, I'm wondering where all these new hot guys are hiding. There were a handful of them, which seems normal to me.

I just assume most of the super hot guys are fakes, so I don't have to worry about whether a guy is verified or not. icon_lol.gif

Can we all stop pretending that "troll" and "fake account" are the same thing...

I concur. two very different things. Like BMW drivers and Audi drivers. Both can be jerks, but only one group can hold the d0uche torch at a time (i think Audi's got it right now)

Personally, I think 'verification' should cost $1...paid by credit card. RJ would get only the last four digits of the card, but if there was a lot of new profiles using the same last 4 digits, it would probably stand out. Few people have more than a couple of credit cards, so most couldn't use a diffferent card for a whole bunch of profiles. And I think it demostrates some commitment to the site. It's a token ammount, but I think trolls are unlikely to spend money to troll here. It also could be a level of age verification, since few people under 18 have credit cards.

I'd probably only do that for the western countries, where I think most of the trolls are coming from (but if another country seemed to have an unusually high number of visits to the site --I'm looking at you, India--they could be added to the list.) I'd keep a no-charge verification for IP blocks in 3rd world countries.

    +1 I fancy your idea !

LionEyes saidCould it be also that they're not that into you or/and they're just flakes. Sometimes you chat with guys that flake out and not necessarily hiding under fake pics. I'm not saying there aren't guys with fake profiles but I doubt it would every single case.

Its more fun to think they're fakes than it is to think they're jerks.
