Oxygen - I mean we just breathe it in and out, and it will eventually give us lung cancer (ie within 100 years of being born), but if we didn't breathe it we would die very quickly. Crazy eh?

Free radicals caused by oxidisation in the body can create cancer cells.

In most cases it would take longer than the human lifespan but once we can turn off the genes which are responsible for aging, and find a cure for things like heart disease people would start to need lung transplants every 100 years or so.

    running water.

Last summer a water main broke and caused frequent unexpected water cut offs. Suddenly you have one flush and one flush only; and only whatever water you have in bottles or in the refrigerator.

I agree. People focus so much on dating or meeting new people and the validation of others that they forget to be thier own friends.
