RJ member rigsby had one of his periodic golf scrambles today (Sunday), and it continues to be an easy format I can play with golfers of various skill levels. With nice weather, too, not yet into Florida summer heat.

There were about 50 players, and as usual the electric golf carts were already lined up for us, our names displayed on the windshields indicating our shotgun start order, special scramble score cards preprinted with our foursome names, and range balls provided for pre-tournament practice.

Afterwards we gathered in the clubhouse for a complimentary buffet, and then winners in various categories were announced, receiving modest golf gifts. All that for $46 is a great deal. You can't play 18 holes by yourself for that amount at better courses around this area.

I also brought a gay friend along for his first time, hadn't played golf in 3 years. He did great. Now he'll be joining another related group of golfers that plays weekly, also created by rigsby. I haven't done that myself yet, lacking confidence in my level of play. If you live in this area or are visiting contact me or rigsby for more information about joining us.

I don't play golf much anymore, just got bored with it, but scrambles are fun.

I find them so. Because your foursome is playing as a team, there's less competition among you as individuals. Except of course to not let the team down. But the whole "tournament" is hardly a tournament at all. The purpose is having fun, not winning something of great value.
