How often do you take a rest day? i had the worst time trying to get into that state of mind. I used to train literally every single day! and my trainer told me rest days are essential for growing.

Nowadays i try to take Sunday off from the gym. No lifting and no cardio at all. I used to overtrain quite a lot and it wasn't helping me grow. I was doing arms almost everyday... 5-6 days a week. And doing legs 4 or 5 days a week. Now i got every body part evenly spaced out for each day.

How many rest days do you take in a week? 1 or 2? my trainer was telling me it's good to take up to 2 days off. And that it helps you gain a lot quicker. But i don't know if i can go 2 days without the gym icon_lol.gif

What do y'all do? is one day good enough for recovery?

No rest for the weary! I work out every day but not extensively. I don't do what I saw on a video here on this site where they do there chest like 20 sets of 10 in intervals or something. I run everyday, do tris, chest, and lats (military press) one day. Next day biceps, upper/lower back the next day. Oh don't forget every day crunches and running/jogging/walking or stationary bike. Reverse crunches every other day.

    This is my routine:

    Monday - legs
    Tuesday - back/bi
    Wednesday - chest/tris/shoulders
    Thursday - legs
    Friday - back/bi
    Saturday - chest/tris/shoulders
    Sunday - rest

So one rest day per week. I feel like if you don't feel the need to have at least one rest day, you aren't hitting the weights hard enough.

I go workout mon/wed/fri since Im using stronglift 5x5, so tu/th/sat/sunday are my rest days lol.

though weekend can also be alternative "yard work"/"house work" days where I do other types of physical activities.

That's another thing i do. I play on a football team as well. So taking a day off the gym that day is perfect. I get a great workout from that. Or a day for cleaning the apartment. Which is a never a fun workout icon_lol.gif

I do feel the need these days definitely. I was incredibly sore yesterday. Couldn't even lift my arms up. So today felt great to go easy on the body.

I tend to do something almost every day. Weights, 3, sometimes 4 days, cardio at least once, preferably twice, and yoga 4-7 days a week. I go by how my body feels. Probably should take a rest day. I once read on Bodybuilding.com (I think) that you should take one to two weeks off every two to three months. I don't lift heavy at my age so I'm not sure it applies to me, but maybe I'm wrong. Rest is good, and of course when you're sleeping is when your growth hormone peaks and muscle repair takes place. If I'm feeling noticeably tired or I didn't sleep well, I stay home and do nothing.

I have so many days in which work or family obligations consumes everything, that I try to work out every day. The result is that "rest" days are usually "stress" days. That doesn't seem right...

I'm glad you guys mentioned work schedules. I usually work 11-14 hour a day. Sometimes more, so i go to the gym very early. I used to go before work and after work. But that was a bit of an overload. I'm a pretty positive guy everyday. And even more positive once i go to the gym icon_smile.gif

If i don't go to the gym is when i feel indifferent. That's the mental aspect of rest days. I used to feel like i would get fat if i missed one day at the gym. Ridiculous thinking i know emote-louisgod2.gif but I'm settling into rest days now.

I may take some of y'alls advice and take 2 rest days every once in awhile. At least once a month maybe?
