I'm a skinny guy with an expanding gut...can I get some pointers as to what I need to do to turn that fat into a flat stomach? (with or without ab definition)

    Cardio.

Expend more calories than you consume.

depends what you are doing now... I prefer lifting to cardio for weight loss. But the basic math stays the same: burn more energy than you consume. If it´s a weak abs issue as well as fat then lifting (etc) would be better IMO

Have you tried a fad diet? How about a pill? j/k. You should try research with empirical evidence in mind icon_smile.gif.

check your diet, it could be what you eat, how much of it, also, your day to day movements.. are you using the elevator more then the stairs now? are you sitting and watching more tv or doing more inactive recreational activities?

if you looked at your diet and its good (ie, eating good foods, lean meats, lots of vegetables and not much takeout/fast food) your activity levels are the same and so on, you might have to decrease how much your eating on a day to day basis, make sure you include snacks, drinks as well as dinners and what not when working out everything.

To help you burn more calories, I'd be inclined to go with both cardio and weight trainer, they will both help you burn calories, but, muscle mass will help you burn more calories just to maintain that muscle and you'll feel better and all that great stuff

Cardio will help you burn calories and also help increase your cardiovascular system which can always do with improving icon_smile.gif

So systematically check through everything, make changes where you see fit, get out moving more, maybe start lifting weights and maybe riding or rowing, doing classes at the gym, go walking.. anything that'll get your heart rate up and you breathing heavy..

Are you sure it's fat? How often do you poop? Are you getting enough fiber in your diet?

Almost 80% of six pack abs is "diet diet diet". If your drinking beer and pizza and eating donuts, and eat at Mickey dee's your not going to get them. Do plenty of cardio a week, eat every 2 to 3 hours, stay away from sugary and fatty foods. Also weight train 3 to 4 times a week. And do both weighted and body weight ab/core exercises.

I'll let you in on a secret... those meatheads before a photo shoot will go piss their brains out drinking coffee or using a diuretic for weeks on end, maybe even bake out by the pool or in a sauna to get even more water off, take a massive dump using an enema, then tighten up with a little Preparation H all just to get those perfect abs!

(The Preparation H actually works LOL)

    Dear Santa,

This year I have been an exceptionally good boy. Can you bring me some Preparation H?

You've still gotta be lean and fairly dry for it to work, btw. Don't get your hopes up if you're not at least 8% body fat.

Okay, so if I eat regularly (yay 5 meals a day) then I constantly have what I like to call food baby. Us skinny and on-the-slim-side guys can have a gut simply by eating regularly.

It's like what people call a "roid gut" in bodybuilders. It's all food and it goes away after a trip to the bathroom. My friends and I will hit a buffet for lunch, I'll put away seven plates of food and look like I've got twins on the way.
