I was gona be nice and *not* reply to this thread but since no one else has…

This has to be one of the lamest ideas for a thread topic I've ever seen. WHO even *has* a "favorite egg cup"? And even if god forbid you *do*, who the fuck cares what it is? I mean, we all have hobbies, I guess, but EGG CUPS? Right up there with salt and pepper shakers! icon_rolleyes.gif

Unless people start posting pics of the right guys using egg cups as tit clamps this thread may go nowhere. But who knew that as of today there'd be 66 serious replies to this formerly lamest thread on RJ: http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/2305132

Well, I actually imaged search for some racy egg cups but got nothing, tbh, except this:

I was hoping for something a bit more gay oriented but nada.

As for salads, yeah, not that interesting but at least I can get behind the idea of sharing favorite recopies or w/e. Egg cups? I don't know, man. I mean, who eats soft boiled eggs out of the shell? I prefer mine either fried, hard boiled or poached.

Maybe something like this male suspensory could be rendered in ceramic:

What the hell do you need an egg cup to eat a hard boiled egg? ... just put salt in the water when you boil them and the peal easily. icon_rolleyes.gif

It's for soft-boiled eggs, actually. And for us it just goes with the other thread about dating ourselves by professing our undying love for David Cassidy. OK, the segue there is tenuous. Back to egg cups.....
Both of us have memories of our grandparents using egg cups and being devoted to them. Somewhere in our maze we call a basement in NJ I'm sure we still have them. Next time the kids are home in NJ, we're passing those heirlooms on! THAT'S what this thread's value was for us: an inspiration to further torment our kids with "heirlooms" (but otherwise not the least bit interesting)! icon_wink.gif

My grandmother often had a morning egg in a double cup like this, that you could invert. The smaller end held the soft-boiled egg with shell, while the larger end could hold a runnier, very lightly-cooked egg you cracked over the cup and drew from the shell, allowing you to mix the yolk & white, and salt & pepper to taste, maybe add some other ingredients. I'll have to ask my husband if he'd like to try eggs that way - his present favorite is poached, which I suppose might also work with the large cup end.

Addendum: OK, asked my husband, he just woke up after dozing following a televised performance of Tosca. He told me he's never had an egg that way, and doesn't want to.

Tosca may be an Italian passion with him, but eating from an egg cup is apparently not a part of his Italian heritage, more a WASP ritual. Maybe I'll buy one for myself anyway, just to act snooty in front of him (not to mention demonstrating a knack for dainty effeminacy).

You've inspired me to pull out my egg cups, and make soft boiled eggs. You might actually enjoy eating an egg or two that way. It's really good.

You don't see egg cups anymore. I remember as a kid we always had them. Some with hats and faces… lol.

The thread reminded me of a breakfast I've not had in ages. Soft boiled eggs and asparagus soldiers. Will have to give it a go next weekend.

Mine are very worn from generations of use. Porcelain tops instead of knit like the OP. Anyone know the name of the pattern?

I know, I'm being tempted myself. If only for the 1950s nostalgia of it. Reminding me of my dear grandmother using one, her sometimes preparing another egg for me to join her. Often cracked open and spooned into the large end of the double cup, to make it easier for me. And using little demitasse-like spoons to eat it. I think the last time I used an egg cup was at Sunday breakfast at the some Army Officers' Open Mess, another anachronistic bastion of traditional values & customs.

There's a little bit of skill & practice involved, though. So don't expect perfect results the first time, nor will I, after all these years.

As for a cup source, I'll just go to our local gay thrift store (that helps fund their HIV/AIDS food bank). They get tons of kitchen items from a good number of gay homes; if anybody locally would have something so froo-froo as an egg cup it would be them. And barring that, I see that eBay has thousands of them.

We'll have to compare notes. I have a scrapbook of paper towel patterns that goes back to 1954. It is over four feet thick and certainly unique.

Actually, after all this I realized I do have a favorite egg cup. Re-doing a cabin vintage-style for a flip years ago I collected and retained a lot of jadeite, including:

    30mmmc5.jpg

While collecting cheap "heirlooms" for staging the idea was to conjure a simpler era when people made the time to soft boil an egg and eat it with a spoon out of the shell in a cup, even if they had to iron their own pinafores. These days no one has the time or inclination to do either, but evoking it sure sells houses!

Asparagus will make your cum taste awful, so don't eat it before going on a hot date.
