Pee Hole Chaffing

Today when I got home from a run and was stripping down for a shower, I noticed blood in my boxers. I was like, "What the heck?" I hadn't felt anything painful, so I looked at my dick and my pee hole was red and bloody. Maybe it was the angle of my dick today, but that's never happened before. Weird icon_confused.gif Can't figure out what was different... my boxers weren't new, I took a piss before I ran, but I've done that before with no problems. Just wondering if any you guys had experienced something similar while running and/or have any suggestions for ways to prevent it from happening again.

My nipples can get chaffed when I run with a shirt, even a light nylon mesh one. I'd read about putting a band-aid over the nipples for running marathons and I do that whenever I need to run with a shirt.

So maybe you could do that, although it's going to be hell taking the band-aid off!

Some urinary conditions can also produce those symptoms. The relationship to your running may be entirely coincidental, or running is only partly a contributing factor.

If blood persists then see your doctor ASAP, for a possible referral to a urologist.

If it's simple clothes chaffing, remedies include: wearing snug briefs or a jock while running. Apply an anti-chaffing skin balm for runners and bikers, such as Body Glide. Larger sports stores should carry it, and some bike shops.

I`ve had one experience with a small amount blood from the anus after a run. I never noticed any pain at the time.

After a visit to the doctor and some tests he concluded I`d probably burst a small blood vessel in my bowel or lower intestinal tract with the effort. (I do push myself very hard when running).

That was several years ago and it hasn`t recurred.

My best advice would be see how it goes. If you get the same thing again, see your doctor.

^^ This for advice. And maybe get briefs for running, or just get running shorts and use Astroglide or other anti-chaffing stuff around your bits. I have to use anti-chaffing lubestuff around my balls and my willy for longer runs, especially when its wet, otherwise there are howls of agony heard all over my town when I hit the shower after...

I second or third wearing briefs under your running shorts, even if they do have a liner. You can get ones with spandex throughout. And the ones I bought I went down a size; normally I wear large so I bought mediums. Half price or less at TJ Maxx or Ross. Going down a size ensures that there's no hangin' and bangin'.

    Hope this has cleared up.

Running shorts hold junk in place to avoid this kind of chafing. If your boxers are cotton they'll retain moisture and eventually cause chafing. I could never wear boxers while running—the little guy would be bouncing around like a 6 year old in a bounce house, and put to bed with a black eye.

On a couple of occasions I've had what's called runner's hematuria after really long runs (17+ miles) on a totally empty bladder. It's important to keep a little urine in there to keep the inner walls of the bladder from slapping together and causing abrasions. A little blood goes a long way in coloring a guy's urine.

It can be pretty terrifying to piss bright red urine. My doc shamed me for making a self-diagnosis and as penance had me undergo the most demoralizing and excruciating of procedures—the dreaded uroscopy! In no other pastime can a man delight in having his dick and bladder inflated with liquid and a camera shoved inside for a five minute peek (while a nurse, stands by, chewing gum) during which time said dick shrivels to infantile proportions. Horrifying and humiliating.

    Oops. TMI. Carry on.

I know this is old, but I used to run without any underwear at all. There was no chafing to be had.

You shouldn't be wearing loose boxers when running. Wear a jockstrap for support. That's what they're designed to do. I can't run for very long without support. If my balls are flopping around in loose boxers I feel like I got kicked in the groin and it hurts.

Sounds like a UT (Urinary Tract) infection.

The only way it will get better is for you to visit a Doctor and get some meds.
