New Year's is a holiday I have every intention of staying in the warm indoors for. However, I inevitably go into the bitter cold to watch some fireworks or go bar hopping. With that in mind, nothing keeps you warm like whiskey.

    Special Manhattan Cocktail.

1 3/4oz rye whiskey (you can use blended if you must)
    1/2oz sweet vermouth
    1/4oz campari
    cherry garnish

the whiskey and campari makes for a manly drink, but the sweet vermouth rounds it out nicely. I stir it in ice only briefly, as I think it is better slightly chilled than cold.

if you don't have any whiskey you could make a Negroni if you substitute gin and pour an ounce of each and ditch the garnish. But that is best cold.

    enjoy

I'll either partake in champers or a hendricks and soda with a lemon twist. Nothing fancy here!

    The Olympic Cocktail

Mix equal parts Brandy, curcao, and OJ.

    It's DELICIOUS!

I am a gin man. Hendricks gin is by far my favorite. I could and have written love poems to it. For all those who think gin tastes like pinesol, I urge you to have a simple martini no olive made with Hendricks and discover what a pleasure gin can be.

and if you will excuse me, I am getting a little misty eyed thinking about it.

When it's time to cut yourself sparkling Pomgrenate juice mixed with sparkling lemonade.

Or S. pomgrenate and S. blueberry.

For me, Its champagne on NYE always. I did hear of an interesting drink that is more or less cranberry juice champagne and vodka. I'm not sure the name though and I think there maybe something else in it as well..

A champagne cocktail, served in an American-style wide champagne glass, not a flute.

Take 2 sugar cubes, adding 1 or 2 drops of Angostura bitters to one cube only. Pour the champagne into the glass, add both cubes, do not stir. Serve.

Note: never use granulated sugar, which will make the champagne foam over.

But I like things that spew out lots of white foam.

A vodka man here (when I drink, that is) and some of the best include Belevedere, Grey Goose, Stoli, Absolute, and Hangar One. I drink it over ice with a shot of Chambord.
