I'm confused, do some of you people actually think that the U.S. has a "free market" in healthcare? haha, wow. Never underestimate the power of delusion (or ignorance).
For those who are unaware, the OECD is a type of global economic think tank representing the 34 richest industrial nations on earth. A major study by the OECD in 2011 found that Americans "pay more than $7,900 per person for healthcare each year - far more than any other OECD country - but still die earlier than their peers in the industrialized world." The COST of healthcare in the US is 62% higher than in Switzerland, and the US spends more tax money on healthcare than most other industrial countries.http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/11/23/us-usa-healthcare-oecd-idUSTRE7AM0NN20111123
In other words: for those screaming about "socialized" healthcare, the US government spends far more than any other industrial society (with "socialized" healthcare), and you get less benefits from it! It's win-win (for the insurance and healthcare cartels).
The US spends more than 17% of its budget on healthcare costs (more than any other OECD nation), and more than twice the average for all OECD nations.http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/health-costs-how-the-us-compares-with-other-countries/#the-rundown
This was again confirmed in another study.http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2013/11/13/US-healthcare-Most-expensive-longest-waits-most-red-tape/UPI-30501384398664/
Another study in 2014 drawing from OECD research shows that the more private insurance is used to fund healthcare, the more expensive it becomes for the same or lower quality of car: "Countries that fund a greater portion of their health system through private insurance typically end up spending a larger share of their GDP on healthcare, the figures showed. For instance, the US spends 18 per cent, France 12 per cent and Canada 11 per cent of their GDP, well above the OECD average of 9 per cent."http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/private-insurancebased-healthcare-the-most-expensive-commission-of-audit-told-20140316-34vh7.html
The United States healthcare system is run by a government-sanctioned CARTEL (this, for those who might be a little confused, is the opposite of a 'free market').
Here is an article from Forbes, not exactly a radical left-wing publication:http://www.forbes.com/sites/epatientdave/2013/07/22/the-cartel-whose-secret-meetings-set-the-price-of-u-s-medicine/
here's an article about the cartel from the 'commies' at the Wall Street Journal:
The medical industry cartel is a real thing:http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Experts-warn-of-medical-industry-cartels-power-3199384.php
And Obama's healthcare "reform" - far from scary "socialism" - was essentially written by the healthcare cartels and insurance industry cartel:http://articles.latimes.com/2013/nov/21/nation/la-na-healthcare-industry-20131122http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertlenzner/2013/10/01/obamacare-enriches-only-the-health-insurance-giants-and-their-shareholders/http://dailybail.com/home/bill-moyers-look-whos-really-writing-the-healthcare-bill-big.html
No wonder that the architect of Obamacare left the white house for a job at a pharmaceutical giant, rewarded for all his "good work":http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/dec/05/obamacare-fowler-lobbyist-industry1
After all, Obamacare is going to bring huge profits for Big Pharma:http://www.forbes.com/sites/brucejapsen/2013/05/25/obamacare-will-bring-drug-industry-35-billion-in-profits/
The drug industry even undertook an ad campaign to support Obamacare:http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/09/health/policy/09lobby.html
And here's an article from the Wall Street Journal on "the collusion between the health-care industry and the White House that produced ObamaCare, and what a story of crony capitalism it is."http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303830204577446470015843822
Right, but "socialized healthcare" is the scary boogeyman! Uh huh.
