Teen convicted of disorderly conduct for using iPad to record bullies tormenting him

A Pennsylvania mother whose learning-disabled son was convicted of disorderly conduct for recording his bullies while they tormented him demanded the judge reverse decision and the school district apologize.

Shea Love wondered why the school district contacted the police to discuss a violation of wiretap statutes instead of confronting the students who were bullying her son, a sophomore at South Fayette High School with attention deficit and an anxiety disorder.

Judgements like these makes me wonder how the hell did they get their job as a 'JUDGE'.

Well, besides being fired (which they won';t be) they plus the idiot judge, should all have their photos posted somewhere on the internet along with an account of their disgusting exploits. Someone, somewhere should be able to to do this easily.

There seems to be a growing movement by authorities against citizens who collect evidence of crime. In many places if you see a police officer breaking the law you can be arrested for using your smart phone to record the crime. In agricultural states laws have been passed forbidding the recording of crimes against animals, as a way to allow corporate livestock operations to abuse and neglect the animals we eventually eat. But this example of a child being punished and criminalized for using a device to defend himself ... I just did not know things could be that unjust.

    +1

The kid was using it as proof against them, not for illegal purposes. There has to be a legal line.

Unfortunately that is Pennsylvania law. It is illegal to record another person without telling them they are being recorded and in most cases without their consent.

This law needs to be completely rewritten. There is no reason a person especially a child being bullied shouldnt be able to record someone's out of control actions in a public place. When you are outside your home you have no reasonable expectation to privacy except when using bathroom or changing in a locker room.-
