Is your smartphone your only computer these days?

10 years ago, the pinnacle of mobility and having a rich experience on the Internet was a laptop. Even though you had phones back then and Palm Pilots, they offered too much compromise from a user experience point of view, coverage and the lack of social networks and the overall investment in user experience from developers was non-existent.

These days, mobile seems like even a better way to enjoy the Internet than on a regular desktop PC, Laptop or even a Tablet in some instances.

When I look at the plethora of 'selfies' taken here on RealJock, I would like to ask some of you:

Is a smartphone your primary computing device these days when it comes to the Internet? Do you still fallback to a desktop/laptop, if so, how often?

I personally notice, I rarely even have the need to for things like Office productivity suites which were a must have 13 years ago. Are you running Excel 2000? Do you have a cracked copy of Photoshop?

To me, it seems like a smartphone is all computing the majority of persons would ever need. Of course, I can't see myself typing up my resume on one, I can see myself making quick edits though.

-never enjoyed using a smart phone operating systems.
    -the screen is too small
-typing on the phone kb is slooow
-not easy to send large files out the cell phone

if i am away from home or wifi and have lots of work to do i usually tether the phone to a laptop. the screen and keyboard are better.

cell phone usage is about 50% of the time

openoffice has a free word processor / excel knock off that works well

Smartphone can't replace my computing needs. The small screen, weak processor, touch interface.. that shit gets annoying after a while. The most used app on my phone.. camera. Next would be maps and web browsing. I just can't do productivity stuff on it.

My laptop died last November and I haven't bought a new one. My smartphone is my only computer for personal use. (I do have a desktop computer at work.).

Interesting, so I guess that means the desktop is not dead then. I do agree having the larger screen has its advantages, but that convenience of lying down in bed, in a line at a store or the bank and having access to a smartphone is really advantageous.

I can't imagine doing any photo editing on a smartphone. Also, much of the web is still not optimized for mobile consumption. Example: this site.

For me this is all equally true with a tablet. Another one that I'd add is that finding where your files are on the tablet is a pain in the rear.

I have a smartphone but still prefer using my desktop and sometimes laptop for computing.

Although I haven't browsed all of the editing aps, within my sensual sign on reasoning that is, i find myself better able to find the right accents based on a large dynamic of screen measurement, especially for the theme park hopping vlog broadcast i would like a crew to film with me, the marks of emphasis on a big picture are best suited with the whoosh effect of a rollercoaster. icon_question.gif

things that a smart phone does better than expected:
    -weather report
    -email
-watch tv while waiting for the bus (tonido)
