An interesting article about how facial hair has become trendy and how a return to normal could be just around the corner...

    What do you think?

Your "normal" comment sounds really judgmental and preachy. Did it ever occur to you that many people have waited a long time for beards to become popular again?

Why would anyone wait until beards got popular?

I feel sorry for those people if they felt they needed beards to become popular in order to wear one.

That's not what I meant. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant waiting for beards to become popular so we can see OTHER guys wearing them. A lot of people like myself enjoy seeing and feeling a beard on the other person. I've always had facial hair of some kind, regardless if it was popular or not.

woodsmen saidI can't grow a beard. Sad. An RJer told me that only a woman can't grow a beard.

Well, that was a rude thing for him to say.

Maybe those men who wish this 'trend' to die, cant grow a beard themselves and its a jealous thing?, its not just the beard itself, if you haven't noticed, those with beards keep their chest hair too.

Remember men waxing? That was a 'trend' too, it was not normal for men to wax, the only reason some men waxed their chest hair was a body builder thing and competition, add oil on skin to a muscular physique and it stands out.

So, for gay men, waxing and shaving is out and natural, trimmed, sculpted hair is in, straight men have always been behind trends and are still in the waxing and clean shaven era, straight men are really into shaving all their pubic hair...ewwww

I don't see the gay guy beard trend dying any time soon, as long as apps like Scruff are around, I think its wishful thinking on some mens part, soon, straight men will catch on

This is what created the clean shaven, waxed chest, look and trend

We have evolved, beard guys are not body builders unless its professional wrestling

Beards look great on some guys, but generally I'm not a fan. If it's not dense/full, then stick to having just scruff or shaving clean.

The beard trend, like all trends do at a point, has hit it's peak. But, it will come back again after an undetermined number of years. Chances are, the only guys who will continue to have beards will be the ones who had them before it became trendy.

Here's another article about beards from the BBC:
    http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-27023992

"The ebb and flow of men's beard fashions may be guided by Darwinian selection, according to a new study.

The more beards there are, the less attractive they become - giving clean-shaven men a competitive advantage, say scientists in Sydney, Australia.

This might be why we've hit 'peak beard'

When "peak beard" frequency is reached, the pendulum swings back toward lesser-bristled chins - a trend we may be witnessing now, the scientists say.

Their study has been published in the Royal Society journal Biology Letters.

In the experiment, women and men were asked to rate different faces with "four standard levels of beardedness".

Both beards and clean-shaven faces became more appealing when they were rare.

The pattern mirrors an evolutionary phenomenon - "negative frequency-dependent sexual selection", or to put it more simply "an advantage to rare traits."

    …"

Actually, where I live, straight men have always felt comfortable with facial hair. It was the gay men (usually queens) who were all like "ewwww" about facial hair. Now those same queens are walking around with full beards because someone said it's acceptable now. icon_rolleyes.gif

You hit the nail on the head; couldn't have said it any better myself.

My dad has had a beard for over 40 years and all of my uncles have had theirs for at least 25 years.

I've always had facial hair (as a naturally hairy guy) but since the beard trend it makes me want to shave even more. I like that men are letting their lovely body hair come back but this thing of every gay man wanting to look like a bear has to go (unless of course they ARE a bear, in which case Hello).
