I don't have any problem with gun ownership but at the same token I don't think any private individual needs to own high powered assault weapons. There has to be some legal restrictions on what type of guns private individuals can own, the second amendment does not prohibit limited restrictions.

"High-powered" is a relative term. Most so called assault weapons are .223 caliber or 5.56x45mm, a round that's puny by hunting rifle standards. .223/5.56 is not approved for hunting in some states (e.g. Virginia) because of its inability to deliver an effective killing first shot to large game animals (deer and larger).

The real objection to AR/AK style rifles that they're designed for high-capacity magazines (30 rounds), and cosmetically, people find them intimidating.

For true lethality, a standard 12 gauge shotgun or a 30-30 lever action rifle would be much more effective, but due to popular perception, there's not much call to ban them.

Deaths from assault weapons are more rare than deaths from shotguns or rifles.

Ban the democratic party from fielding candidates for city council and mayor in most of the older northern cities since the democrats wrecked these older northern cities with their monopoly rule. It is time to seriously weaken the voting power of organized labor and the unmotivated urban poor.
