From circuit parties to raves to religion, this is just disturbing, in the middle of Hollywood, at such a iconic gay and straight leased dance venue, across from the huge amoeba music store http://www.amoeba.com/, comes rick warren and his evangelicals, this is not the neighborhood for such old white, orange county people to travel to, I didn't know the famous palladuium was so desperate for business, I guess the gay dance crowd has moved on, I see trouble brewing here as the Hollywood party crowd late nights early morning will be like WTF is this, once they get religion on sundays, they can walk over to the music store and then walk to the gym icon_rolleyes.gif

as I always say "follow the money" the "gay party crowd" (20-35 year olds) is broke with $350/month student loans and $300/month car loans

I don't think many people are interested in the "gay party scene" anymore, people have moved beyond that trap, it's a dead industry

Makes no sense at all, owners Live Nation (Beverly Hills) leasing this building to rick warren especially after the renovations icon_confused.gif

    ^^

dude there's no money in it for a big "gay" venue, you either charge a cover at the door or serve booze to make a profit - hell, it's just a bar with music - too many sq ft to turn a profit

Gay or straight, its a music venue, with bars and a liquor license, not a church, some former churches have become dance and music venues but I have not heard the other way around

come on man, if there was any money in it, it would still be viable, it's not

too bad it's a church, i'd rather see it become an animal shelter, but that's just me

Its like if rick warren decided to take over Ballys on the Vegas strip and open his religious thing in the middle of sin city, that would be inappropriate, if you don't understand how Hollywood runs, look to Vegas, if he wanted an LA location, maybe he should have looked at more appropriate locations, say the west SFV, south bay, or downtown, skid row.

Maybe he's operating under the misguided impression that the only thing preventing us "heathen" from being saved is our lack of access to religion icon_rolleyes.gif

Doesn't the article say part of Warren's strategy is to attract more LA Latinos to his Palladium church?

omg i dont even know what to think... maybe we can just stay inside when the Saturday night party ends at 5am and the service starts at 8am.

i have had some amazing times at the palladium though... the speakers make the floor vibrate.

I heard that Rick Warren isn't having a choir at the services, but hired Brett Henrichsen to spin club mixed gospel tunes icon_lol.gif

I think they're running out of closed ex grocery stores ... generally for Calvary .... who snaps up many of these larger venues.

I'm frankly not hugely surprised given how few large venues are on the market.

They should be. It's not that far a schlep from Fairfax.

Disappointing degree of bigotry and intolerance shown in many of these posts. I'm no fan of RW and his kind, but many are and he's helped them turn their lives around, so let them come to the corner of Sta. Monica and Robertson if they want to. And no, you don't fight intolerance by being intolerant of it.

And my 'them' referred to the shepherds of similar organizations.

True, he has turned around the lives of many people, but not always for the better.

Partly as the result of his influence, several countries in Africa have enacted exceedingly draconian laws against gay men and women. It has resulted in persecution and murder. Of course he has denied responsibility, but nevertheless he is responsible. The results could have been predicted.
