I was listening to The Police album Synchronicity at the gym today. And i think Sting & the boys music gets better with age!

I don't use the word genius for just anyone. People like Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Prince etc. Are genius musicians and wordsmiths too me... and i think i would put Sting on that list.

Dude has a very interesting way with words. That's probably because he was an English teacher before doing music. He plays bass with furry, funk grove, and punk attitude. A lot of rock bassists are hit and miss with they're bass playing. But he's always on point! he also plays 15 other instruments throughout his solo career. In his solo work he also picked the best jazz musicians to play on his album. He's got a great ear for music too.

Another amazing thing about The Police is Stewart Copeland. Dude is an absolutely fantastic drummer! he is a student of jazz, and he plays with the classic jazz hands stance. If you listen to their songs you will notice one unique thing about him. He never plays the same type of thing more than once on an album. Every song he's done has it's own groove, pattern, and unique structure. Where as a lot of rock drummers repeat themselves quite often. He ranges from punk to reggae to jazz sometimes all in one song. He's the secret weapon of the group honestly.

How many are fans of The Police? or Sting's solo work?

    Favorite song? album?

From all the songs I've heard from The Police, I can say I really enjoy them. Need to listen to their whole albums some day but their singles are great. The song that converted me to giving them more listens was "Don't Stand so Close to me". I know I've heard one song by Sting on Guitar Hero but it was quite some time ago so I'm not confident saying if I liked his solo work but I'll give it a listen. icon_smile.gif

I think the police made some nice songs.
As for Sting's solo work im not much of a fan.
I like a few songs like the funky "we'll be together" and "all this time".
Also a few ballads .. but he's kind of boring.
    I prefer prince for sure.

    4. Dead end job (one of their punk songs)
    5. Invisible sun
    6. Spirits in the material world

I think you might possible enjoy his first few albums. A good mix of jazz, funk,
Blues, and rock. His 90s stuff and onward though... Pretty AOR adult contemporary boredom.

I love the Police, Stewart Copeland was amazing. I saw Sting and Annie Lennox once and that was cool.

Police were probably the best power trio ever (yeah Rush and Cream too)

I can see why people don't like Sting personally. I think he has some really great ideas, and i like the way he speaks his mind. But he does come off (even in his older age) as a little arrogant. But he has accomplished an amazing amount in the music world. And he's one of the best white bass players to ever play the instrument in my opinion.

He has calmed down a tiny bit on his arrogance. Watching old interviews with him... are torture icon_lol.gif dude thought he was a GOD in those days.

Argh! not sure how to get YouTube videos to show up here. But here is a great live cut from Sting and his old solo band.

Amazing musicians! especially Omar Hakim. I find the song rather sexy as well.

Another greats solo hit from Sting was Russians. Which is relevant at the moment... with all the events happening there.

man I had a crush on Stewart Copeland (drums) when I was in college, he was fucking amazing

he had those machine gun riffs and great rim shots and was really tasteful, elegant really - he never overplayed or went for those 7 minute drum solos
