Fernet is an interesting drink. I've only tried it once, so I haven't really decided if I like it or not. icon_biggrin.gif

Are there many bars that carry it?

I don't know about bars here in SF, but they do carry it at Safeway and BevMo!

By the second or third drink, the buzz is mellow yet perky.

Other bitters you might try: Campari (which I love) or Cinzano.

Straight? Or mixed with something? Fernet by itself was kinda meh. I liked it better with Coke.

You can mix it if you like. I prefer my booze straight. Preferably right out of the bottle in a paper bag, consumed while sitting on a dirty sidewalk curb while wearing a raincoat and newspapers wrapped around my feet in place of shoes. With a five-day growth of beard.

Yeah, I've seen it at BevMo. Kinda pricey. But then again, I don't buy liquor regularly. icon_neutral.gif

    For a 750ml bottle...
It was $31.58 (total with taxes) at BevMo! Van Ness
It was marked on the shelf $24.50 at Safeway Bay Street(but they were out).

It cost me ARS$60 in Buenos Aires (about US$5.75) at the Disco supermercado in Recoleta.

I should have brought back Fernet instead of dulce de leche.

Yeah, we had a satellite office in Argentina. One of the managers came over to the States for a convention that we all went to. He brought a couple of bottles in his suitcase. icon_biggrin.gif

I've been making dulce de leche. After it's cooked I add 2 ounces of semisweet Ghirardelli chocolate and mix well with an electric hand mixer. It's to die for.

At home its creme de menthe, milk and ice in a blender but at bars I like mango sorbet colada or fair ground martini and if they don't do cocktails then a pear cider or a glass of ruby port.
