My friends took me to Vegas for my birthday weekend and we took in a few shows --- Britney Spears "Piece of Me" at PLANET HOLLYWOOD on Friday night, and Michael Jackson's "ONE" by Cirque Du Soleil at Mandalay Bay on Saturday night.
Here's the thing about the Britney show (and I'm a fan) --- If you're going to lip-synch through an entire show, at least dance. Yes, the show was an extravaganza, Britney looks amazing, and the fans are taken through a set of virtually all of her major hits -- and a few minor ones. Britney could not have looked less interested in being there. In fact, sadly, she was the weak link on stage surrounded by great dancers giving 100%, while she was giving (maybe) 50%. I've seen sharper dance moves from a high school cheerleader at a Friday night football game. Although, admittedly, I was entertained throughout the whole show, I did not realize how truly awful it was until the next night.
Which brings me to Cirque Du Soleil's spectacular Michael Jackson "ONE" show. If you are going to Vegas and don't take this show in you are missing one incredible experience. This is one jaw-dropping spectacle from start to finish, taking you through all of Michael's incredible hits, while at the same time creating an entertainment experience the likes of which I have never seen before. The clever and creative use of video back drops and state-of-the-art technology bring Michael back to life surrounded by breath-taking dancing and acrobatics that only Cirque Du Soleil can deliver. I'll never forget this show --- the best birthday present EVER!
