I am in the middle of reading Good Calories, Bad Calories and am impressed with its information. However, I would like to know if there are any good sources for a general reader that either contradict or support its main thesis that high carbohydrate diets are harmful to health.

Try any good bodybuilding board. bodybuilding.com is a good place to start.

Google up on glycemic indexes, insulin responses, and glycogen reloading.

There's no such thing as a perfect diet. Allergies, metabolism, genetics, lifestyle (workout, activity, rest, stress) all have an influence on your food intake. If you have a high metabolism, for example, you will need more carbohydrates, than someone with a lower metabolism. The issue of protein and vitamins and fats are an additional issue to consider.
